Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) has a four stroke lead on David Spurr (Elmhurst) and Doug Penner (Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club) through 36 holes in the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Quarry Oaks Golf Course.
Nachtigall, at 9-under par 135, started the day with a 4-under par 68 and followed it up in the afternoon with a 5-under par 67.
After a 1-over par 73 Tuesday morning, Spurr turned it on for his second round carding seven birdies enroute to a 6-under par 66.
Inside the Mid-Amateur Championship is the Mid-Masters division for competitors over the age of 40. Spurr sits six strokes better than Rob Atatise (Whitewater Golf Club) on that leaderboard.
Penner went 70-69 to give himself a chance to play in the final group with Nachtigall and Spurr.
Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) at 3-under par 141 (71-70) and Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst) at 2-under par 142 (71-71) are the only other players under par to round out the top five on the leaderboard.
