Doug Penner (Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club) erased a four stroke deficit entering the day with eight birdies during the final round on Wednesday at Quarry Oaks Golf Course to win the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
Penner finished the 54 hole event at 12-under par 204 with a sparkling 7-under par 65.
Penner finished two strokes ahead of Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and David Spurr (Elmhurst). Nachtigall carded a 1-under par 71 while Spurr had a 5-under par 67.
The 10-under par 206 total earned Spurr the Mid-Masters Division Championship by 13 strokes over Jon Schroeder (Quarry Oaks) and Rob Atatise (Whitewater Golf Club).
Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst) and Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) rounded out the top five on the Manitoba Blue Cross leaderboard as the only other players in the field to finish under par. Lutz at 7-under and McDonald was 3-under.
