Lafleche & Sholdice win Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur & Men’s Mid-Amateur Championships at Granite Hills Golf Club

Jeri Lafleche

15 year old Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course won the Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur Championship at Granite Hills Golf Club Friday afternoon shooting a final round 4 over par 76, earning a six stroke victory over Southwood Golf & Country Club’s Rhonda Orr.

Lafleche finished the 54 hole event with a 232 total.

Orr won the Mid-Amateur Division Championship with her 238 total by one stroke over Breezy Bend Country Club’s Charmaine Mackid.

Ryan Sholdice

Breezy Bend’s Ryan Sholdice earned a two stroke victory in the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship with a tournament total 224. Sholdice carded a final round 77 to edge Drew Jones of Shilo Country Club who finished play with a 78.

Joe Scharf of Whitewater Golf Club won the Mid-Masters Division with a 3 over par 75 and 229 total, 7 strokes better than Lorne Duncan of Rossmere Country Club and St. Charles Country Club’s Curtis Markusson.

Sholdice lone player to break par at Granite Hills Golf Club

Ryan Sholdice of Breezy Bend Country Club had four birdies while shooting a 2 under par 70 Thursday at Granite Hills Golf Club and has a one stroke lead over Drew Jones of Shilo Country Club entering the final round of the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

Sholdice is at 3 over par 147 though 36 holes. Jones shot a 1 over 73 to sit at 148.

Curtis Markusson of St. Charles Country Club (79-74 -153) and Niakwa Country Club’s Jay Doyle (78-75-153) share the lead in the Mid-Masters Division.

There’s a three way tie atop of the Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur Championship at 156.

In their second round, Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course shot a 3 over par 75 while St. Charles’ Addison Kartusch and Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Veronica van der Meer each carded a 77.

van der Meer leads the Mid-Amateur Division by four strokes over Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend and Southwood Golf & Country Club’s Rhonda Orr.

Even par is low score on Day 1 of the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur & Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur

Allan McDonald

Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend Country Club made six birdies on his way to an even par 72 to lead the field after the opening 18 holes of play in the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Granite Hills Golf Club.

McDonald (38-34), has a two stroke lead over Ben Bandura of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club (74) and is three strokes better than Shilo Country Club’s Drew Jones (75).

Bandura leads the Mid-Masters Division by two strokes over Joe Scharf of Whitewater Golf Club (76) and is four up on Niakwa Country Club’s Jay Doyle (78).

Veronica van der Meer

There’s a four way tie atop of the leaderboard in the Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur Championship at 7 over par 79.

Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Veronica van der Meer, Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club, Charmaine MacKid of Breezy Bend Country Club and Southwood Golf & Country Club’s Rhonda Orr all have a two stroke lead on Clear Lake Golf Course’s Jeri Lafleche and Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Cala Korman.

van der Meer’s round featured an eagle for a deuce on the 14th hole while Kartusch did the same on 16.

van der Meer, Mackid and Orr also share the lead in the Mid-Amateur Division. They have a four stroke advantage on Hannah Diamond of St. Charles Country Club (83).

PREVIEW | Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur & Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur

There will be a new champion in 2022 for both the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur Championships this week at Lac du Bonnet.

Todd Fanning and Bobbi Uhl are not returning to defend their titles at Granite Hills Golf Club during the respective 54 hole championships.

There are 51 players vying for the Men’s Mid-Amateur title. Jordy Lutz of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club, who finished second last year to Fanning by four strokes will be in the opening group to tee off at 8am.

18 competitors will compete for the Women’s championship, including last year’s runner up Rhonda Orr of Southwood Golf & Country Club, who lost to Uhl in a three hole playoff.

First Golf Manitoba major of the year tees off July 2-4

The 2019 Golf Manitoba major championship season tees off July 2-4 with the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur & Women’s Amateur Championships. Both events will be contested at the Selkirk Golf & Country Club.

Selkirk Golf & Country Club has hosted many Golf Manitoba events and championships and will be a great test of golf. The course plays anywhere from 5761-6520 yards, to a Par of 71 for Men and 73 for Women. Almost every fairway is tree lined and calls for accurate tee shots. The green speed will be a test for the field traditionally running at a speed of 10 on the stimp meter and are known for their many undulations.

Both defending champions will lead the 95+ player field. Justin McDonald of Breezy Bend will defend his 2018 Mid-Amateur title and Camryn Roadley of Southwood Golf & Country Club will defend her 2018 Women’s Amateur title.

Diamond Athletic is the host sponsor for 2019 and with that brings some event enhancements including an increased travel honouraium for those players who qualify to represent Team Manitoba in the Golf Canada Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship and the Golf Canada Women’s Amateur Championship as well complimentary access to the Selkirk practice facility for all competitors during the competition.

Diamond Athletic announced as title sponsor of Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships

WINNIPEG – Golf Manitoba is pleased to announce that Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies is the new title sponsor of the 2019 Manitoba Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships, with the event to be known as the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships.

The Manitoba Men’s Mid-Amateur is the provincial stroke-play championship for males ages 25 and up while the Women’s Amateur is the provincial stroke-play championship for women ages 12 and up.  The top three players in each event will earn a spot to represent Manitoba in their respective Golf Canada national championships.
