The objective of Team Canada – NextGen is to provide resources and support to help developing Canadian junior and young amateur golfers maximize their potential and eventually reach the LPGA or PGA TOUR.

Chuback, Kartusch, Korman & Prokopowich named to Team Manitoba for Canada Summer Games

Golf Manitoba is pleased to announce Grady Chuback, Addison Kartusch, Cala Korman and Eric Prokopowich will represent our province starting this week at the Canada Summer Games.

“Cala started the season with a win at the City and District Championship followed by a 7th place finish at the Diamond Athletic Women’s Amateur and a 3rd place finish at the Junior Girls Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation. She then followed these impressive performances by being the only Manitoban to make the cut at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship. Her determination, and ability to push herself has allowed her to become a top player in the province” ” said Golf Manitoba Junior Development Team Women’s Coach Bri-ann Tokariwski.

“Addison came out of the gate this season with the low medalist at the Manitoba Match Play Qualifier, competing against a field that is pro dominantly older than her” added Tokariwski. “She had a top 3 finish at the Women’s Am followed by a dominating win at the Junior Championship and a top 30 finish at the Canadian Junior Championship. Addison’s approach to the game and distance off the tee has allowed her to improve her game and compete at a high level”.

“Eric and Grady have worked so hard all year for this once in a life time opportunity. They have both earned their spot through an extensive qualifying process. I’m very excited what they can do over the 4 rounds” said Golf Manitoba Junior Development Team Men’s Coach Derrik Goodwin.

Tournament play tees off Wednesday.

Winnipeg’s Jack Taylor at Team Canada Development Squad Selection Camp

Golf Manitoba Junior Boys Development team member Jack Taylor, of St. Charles Country Club, is one of 22 men in Toronto this week looking to impress Golf Canada at their annual Development Squad Selection Camp.

Heading into this selection camp, Golf Manitoba Junior Boys Development Head Coach Derrik Goodwin believes the future is bright for Taylor based on what he puts into his preparation.

“It has been a privilege to watch Jack grow over the past couple seasons. Implementing regular strength training and fitness sessions into his regular routine has really allowed him to take the next step in his game. Jack has become bigger and stronger, allowing him to pick up some serious distance off the tee” said Goodwin. The detail he puts into his golf training sessions is something all juniors can learn from. He comes with a plan to the course each day knowing exactly what he is going to practice, and how he is going to practice it. From short game to full swing, he is constantly working his plan to improve. The biggest part to his success over the past year has been his off-season training. Jack doesn’t take time off; he continues to work on his swing and putting indoors in the off-season which keeps him sharp 12 months of the year.”

Taylor played his first round at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley carding a six over par 78 and is tied for 18th on the leaderboard.
