Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club), Hannah Diamond (St. Charles Country Club) and Mindy Lichtman (St. Boniface Golf Club) all made the cut at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Ontario following Thursday’s second round.

Hayden carded a 8-over par 80 to sit at 14-over par 158, tied for 28th in the Mid-Amateur division and 14th in the Mid-Master division.

Diamond shot a 9-over par 81 to finish the day at 17-over par 161, while Lichtman sits at 27-over par 171 after carding a 14-over par 86.

Rachel Harms (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) shot a 22-over par 94 to finish at 50-over par 194, falling short of the cut line.

Lauren Greenlief of Oakton, Va. holds a seven shot lead going into Friday’s final round following a 6-under 66 on Thursday to put her at 13-under for the tournament. Taya Battistella of Bellingham, Wash. finished with a second consecutive round of 3-under 69 to remain second in the Mid-Amateur division and first in the Mid-Master.

Team Manitoba (Harms, Lichtman and Diamond) finished sixth in the 2026 Inter-Provincial Team Championship at 44-over par. British Columbia won the event at 5-over par.

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) shot an opening round 7-over par 79 at Hylands Golf Club in Ontario at the 2026 Canadian All Abilities Championship, presented by BDO.

Hammerback’s round puts him T9 on the leaderboard in the gross stroke play division and T17 in the net stableford division.

The Stableford scoring format sets points based on a golfer’s net score for each hole. The points awarded are: Albatross (5 points), Eagle (4 points), Birdie (3 points), Par (2 points), Bogey (1 point), and Double Bogey or higher (0 points).

Also representing Manitoba are Matteo Lisoway (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club) who shot a 92 to sit T30 in the gross stroke play division and 44th in net stableford while Gurmit Sandhu (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) carded a 101, for 39th in gross and 53rd in net.

Emma Bittorf of Strathmore, Alta. leads both the women’s gross stroke play and net stableford divisions, while Josh Hunke of New Dundee, Ont. and Victor Postillion of Winfield, Ill. are tied for the lead in the men’s gross stroke play standings after shooting a 1-under 71 in Wednesday’s opening round. Randy McKay of London, Ont. and Chris Tamas of North York, Ont. are tied for first in the men’s net stableford division with 38 points.

Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) leads Manitoba after the opening round of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO, at Burlington Golf & Country Club in Burlington, Ontario.  

Hayden shot a 6-over par 78 to sit T19 in the Mid-Amateur division and T10 in the Mid-Master division.

Lauren Greenlief of Oakton, Va. fired an opening round 7-under 65 to take the lead heading into Thursday’s second round. Her playing partner on Wednesday was Taya Battistella of Bellingham, Wash. who finished with a 3-under 69 to sit second in the Mid-Amateur division and lead the Mid-Master division.

Team Manitoba (Harms, Lichtman and Diamond) is sixth on the 36-hole Inter-Provincial Team Championship leaderboard at 21-over par, 17 strokes behind first place British Columbia.

The 2026 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO, is set to get underway August 5-7 at the Burlington Golf & Country Club in Burlington, Ontario.  

The field features 90 of the best female amateur talents above the age of 25, with the mid-amateur (players aged 25-and-over as of August 5, 2026) and mid-master (players aged 40-and-over as of August 5, 2026) competitions both running concurrently through the completion of 54 holes.

Representing Manitoba are Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club), Hannah Diamond (St. Charles Country Club), Mindy Lichtman (St. Boniface Golf Club) and Rachel Harms (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club).

Harms, Lichtman and Diamond will also represent our province in the 36-hole Inter-Provincial Team Championship on Wednesday and Thursday.

The field consists of five past champions, led by defending champion and four-time winner, Judith Kyrinis of Thornhill, Ont. (2016, 2019, 2023, 2025). Last year in Lachute, Que., Kyrinis defeated Nonie Marler of Vancouver, B.C. in a three-hole playoff to win her fourth Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur title. Earlier this month Kyrinis added to her trophy cabinet with a win at the Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Along with Kyrinis are two-time winner, Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay, B.C. (2022, 2024), Lauren Greenlief of Oakton, Va. (2017), Terrill Samuel of Etobicoke, Ont. (2015) and Canadian Golf Hall of Famer, Mary-Ann Hayward of St. Thomas, Ont. (2008). In addition to five past Canadian champions, 2024 U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur and R&A Women’s Senior Amateur champion, Nadene Gole of Victoria, Australia will be competing this year in Burlington.

Following Thursday’s second round the field will be cut to the low 70 players and ties based off the Mid-Amateur division with a minimum of 10 players in the Mid-Master division making the cut.

Three notable exemptions are up for grabs for the winner, including entry into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J. from August 29 – September 3, as well as a spot in the field for the 2027 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and 2027 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, both presented by BDO.

The 2026 Canadian All Abilities Championship, presented by BDO, is set for August 4-7 at Hylands Golf Club in Gloucester, Ontario, where a field of 66 amateur golfers will compete for the national title.

Representing Manitoba are Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club), Gurmit Sandhu (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) and Matteo Lisoway (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club).

Shane Dyck (Pine Ridge Golf Club) and Kale Calder (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) were also in the field but had to withdraw due to travel restrictions.

The sixth playing of the national championship will be a 54-hole event featuring players with neurological, intellectual, sensory, and physical impairments.

This year’s championship will feature playing divisions that will be based on EDGA Sport Class, with each player who is eligible assigned to compete in a division. The different sport classes include sitting 1 and 2, standing 1, 2, and 3, intellectual 1 and 2, and visual 1 and 2. In addition, tee assignments will be based on Gender and Sport Class this year.

There are two different competitions, Gross Stroke Play and Net Stableford. In those two competitions there are four different divisions in the Canadian All Abilities Championship that players will compete in: Women’s Gross Stroke Play; Women’s Net Stableford; Men’s Gross Stroke Play and Men’s Net Stableford, in addition to their respective sport class.

The men’s division includes defending Gross Stroke Play champion Josh Williams of Tavistock, Ont. currently ranked no. 9 on the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD), two-time Gross Stroke Play champions Chris Willis of Aurora, Ont. (no. 22 WR4GD), and Kurtis Barkley of Williamsburg, Ont. (20 WR4GD). Along with defending Net Stableford champion Kelly Masson of Grand Prairie, Alta. (no. 122 WR4GD) and past champion Kevin Delayney of Windsor, Ont. (no. 132 WR4GD).

The women’s field includes five-time Gross Stroke Play champion Natasha Stasiuk of Oakville, Ont. ranked no. 179 (WR4GD), two-time Net Stableford winner and defending champion Emma Bittorf of Strathmore, Alta. who is ranked no. 296 (WR4GD), and three-time Net Stableford Champion Tess Trojan of St. Catherines, Ont. ranked no. 554 (WR4GD).

“We are proud and excited to begin the sixth playing of the Canadian All Abilities Championship at Hylands Golf Club with a field that is comprised of several past national champions and those with international tournament experience,” said Golf Canada Tournament Director Daniel Suppa. “The national championship features a gross stroke play division and net stableford division that provides an even opportunity for the field competing in the national championship. We are grateful to the staff and volunteers at the Hylands Golf Club for their efforts to ensure the players leave Gloucester with a memorable experience.”

Hylands Golf Club is a private 36-hole facility in the nation’s capital. The South Course was built in 1963, and the North Course was built in 1972. Hylands Golf Club is part of the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Program where they provide an affordable, enjoyable, first-class golf venue in the National Capital Region for Canadian Forces personnel and their families, and others wo may be accepted as members into the club.

“I am extremely pleased that Hylands Golf Club will be hosting the Canadian All Abilities Championship,” said Matt Clitheroe, General Manager, Hylands Golf Club. “This is a great event that gives us the opportunity to promote inclusivity in golf, while having an excellent group of athletes showcase their talents in a high-level competition.”

The Stableford scoring format of the Canadian All Abilities Championship awards set points based off a golfer’s net score for the hole. The points will be awarded as follows: Albatross (5 points), Eagle (4 points), Birdie (3 points), Par (2 points), Bogey (1 point), Double Bogey or higher (0 points). The golfers with the highest total of accumulated points over 54-holes will win their respective divisions.

Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) shot a 1-over par 73 to finish T23 on the leaderboard at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship.

Nachtigall’s 72 hole total is 4-under par 284.

Jack Moro (Whitewater Golf Club) saved his best for last with six birdies and 12 pars enroute to a 6-under par 66 climbing 36 spots on the leaderboard to end up T33 at 3-under par 285.

Dawson Lew entered the final round tied for the lead with Tobias Buffam and ended it by becoming a two-time national champion.

Lew of Toronto, Ont. closed out the final round with a 3-under 69 finishing the tournament at 17-under to win by three. The Team Canada NextGen member wrapped up his second national championship with rounds of 70-65-67-69-271, carding one eagle and 20 birdies during the week. Buffam of Calgary, Alta. shot an even par 72 to finish at 14-under with rounds of 67-69-66-71-274.

“Its unreal,” said Lew after becoming a two-time national champion.

“I try not to worry about who I am playing with, my main goal is to come out and do what I had to do which is hit good targets off the tees and into the greens, and continue to commit to every shot, and I think I did a pretty good job of that today,” said Lew on whether he enjoys playing in the same group as the person he is competing against.

Lew said he is a leaderboard watcher but even with his hot start of three birdies through the first five holes, he did not let it affect his game on Thursday.

“On the last three or four holes I just laid up some putts, but other than that it didn’t really change how I played,” said Lew.

Lew and Buffam were neck and neck today; Lew took an early two shot lead after grabbing a birdie on the first hole while Buffam bogeyed. Lew held the lead through the first six holes then had a tough bogey on hole no. 7 where Buffam birdied to jump back into a tie for the lead.

Lew regained the lead shortly after on hole no. 9, the two stayed even through 11 holes until Buffam had a tough double bogey on no. 12 followed by a bogey on no. 13. Lew would also bogey no. 13 but now had a three-shot lead heading into the final five holes. Lew later missed a two-foot putt for birdie on hole no. 16 but did not let it change his mentality.

“I was just like what am I doing, but I mean I still had a three-shot lead, I knew if I had two good tee shots on 17 and 18 it would do the trick,” said Lew.

Heading into the final hole of the championship Lew played it safe to ensure the victory.

“I was just going to play it as a three-shot hole, driver kind of brings in the fescue on the right so I just decided to hit three wood off the tee, and then I laid up with a pitching wedge then I just hit a flip wedge on and two putted for par.”

With the win Lew’s name will be forever etched in the history books as he joins eight fellow Canadians who have won both the Canadian Junior Boys Championship and the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship.

“It’s an unreal feeling, I know Nick Taylor did it and anytime you’re in the same sentence as him its pretty cool, he is a Canadian Icon. So yeah, I mean it’s surreal, I don’t think its really set in yet.”

In 2024, Lew was in a golf cart accident and suffered a significant injury ending his season due to a broken tibia. After rehabbing it over the winter he proceeded to win five tournaments in 2025 highlighted by his first national championship at the, Canadian Junior Boys Championship.

“I mean I haven’t really thought of that moment in a while. Yeah, I don’t really let the past define me and I feel like if I keep my sight forward not thinking about the past,” said Lew on whether he thinks back to 2024 and everything he had to deal with.

Lew plans to celebrate with a flight home back to Toronto later this evening along with some sleep followed by celebrating with his friends and family tomorrow.

In addition to winning the Earl Grey Cup Lew will receive a direct exemption into the 2027 RBC Canadian Open, the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship, 2027 U.S. Open Final Qualifying, and 2027 U.S. Amateur Final Qualifying. Lew will also be exempt to defend his title at the 2027 Canadian Amateur Championship if he is eligible.

Buffam finished runner-up, while Brett Jones of Calgary, Alta. and Jean-Philippe Par of St-Célestin, Que. finished tied for third at 12-under.

More than a century old, there is no amateur golf championship in Canada with a richer history than the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship.  The Canadian Men’s Amateur is one of the oldest amateur golf events in the world some past champions include the Canadian golf heroes George S. Lyon, Moe Norman, Nick Westlock, Gary Cowan, Doug Roxburgh, Nick Taylor, Mackenzie Hughes and many more.

For the second consecutive year, Todd Fanning (Niakwa Country Club) is the Hodson Financial Men’s Senior Champion.

Fanning shot even par 72 Wednesday at Breezy Bend Country Club to finish the 54 hole event at 5-under par 211.

Clubmate Jay Doyle ended play with a 3-over par 75 earning the silver medal at 1-under par 215. David White (St. Charles Country Club) had the low round of the day at 1-under par 71 to move up seven spots on the leaderboard into third place at 6-over par 222.

Fanning, Doyle and White will represent our province as Team Manitoba in the Inter-Provincial Team Championship this September as Niakwa Country Club hosts the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship. Also competing with a quota spot are Mike Walker (St. Boniface Golf Club), Dan Scanlon (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club), Dale Coulter (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) and David Kuik (Niakwa).

Dan Scanlon (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) won the Super Senior Division at 7-over par 223 (71-78-74).

Brian Campbell (Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club) won the Net Stableford Division with 103 points.

Angela Martens (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) returned to the Golf Manitoba record books for the first time since 1999 winning the Senior Women’s Championship on the first playoff hole versus Stacey Borowski (Breezy Bend). Martens had not played competitive golf since claiming the Women’s Amateur Championship 27 years ago.

Both players ended 54 holes of play at 14-over par 233. Martens shot a 74 while Borowski was at even par 73.

Tammy Gibson (Niakwa) finished in third place at 23-over par 242 following a 78.

Borowski, Gibson and Fran Povoledo (Southwood Golf & Country Club) will represent as Team Manitoba in the Inter-Provincial Team Championship during the Canadian Women’s Senior in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta in mid September.

Gibson won the Super Seniors Division by 10 strokes over Shelley Muir (Breezy Bend).

Angie Horrock (Elmhurst) won the Net Stableford Division with 106 points.

Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) had a strong performance during Wednesday’s third round at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in Calgary.

Nachtigall carded four birdies to finish at 1-under-par 71 to sit at 5-under par 211, tied for 17th on the leaderboard.

Jack Moro (Whitewater Golf Club) is T69 at 3-over par 219 following a 3 over par 75.

Dawson Lew of Ontario and Tobias Buffam of Calgary are tied for the lead at 14-under 202. Buffam shot a 6-under par 66 while Lew had a 67.
