Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) had an eagle and eight birdies on his way to an 8-under par 64 and a share of first place on the leaderboard following the opening round of the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Brantford, Ontario.

Nachtigall, who is tied with Ontario’s Garrett Rank and Nolan vonKalckreuth, started the day with a birdie on the 11th hole followed by his eagle on 12. After back to back bogeys on the 13th and 14th holes, the Brandon product played the final 14 holes at 7-under par.

“I drove it great off the tee only missing one fairway” said Nachtigall. “With my length I left like I was able to have wedges into some holes where others had 8 iron or more. That allowed me to attack some tricky pin locations”.

Nachtigall, Lutz and Spurr have combined to put Manitoba in first place at 11-under par on the leaderboard in the 36 hole Inter-Provincial Team Championship. They have a four stroke lead on second place Alberta.

Spurr is three strokes off the lead in the Mid-Masters Division led by Alberta’s Alex Large.

The Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship is a 72-hole stroke play event, with a 36-hole cut to the low 70 players and ties. The national championship was first contested in 1987 and includes an inter-provincial team competition held over the first 36 holes. The Mid-Amateur division will run concurrently with the Mid-Master division for players 40 and older.

“We are very excited to be hosting the 2026 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, at Brantford Golf & Country Club. The staff have worked extremely hard to ensure the event is successful for all the players and volunteers involved,” said Connor Doyle, Tournament Director, Golf Canada. “This year’s field features a mix of past national champions, and many top mid-amateur golfers.”

There are three past Canadian Mid-Amateur champions including Cam Burke of Kitchener, Ontario, Garrett Rank of Waterloo, Ontario and Rob Couture of Celina, Texas. Burke won the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2024 along with winning the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in 2008 and 2009. Rank is a three-time Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur champion in 2014, 2015, and 2016, he also won the Canadian College / University Individual Championship in 2012. Couture won in 2011. The final former Canadian national champion in the field is Don Martone of Sault Ste Marie, Ont. who won the 2025 Canadian Men’s Senior Championship.

For nearly 150 years, Brantford has been one of Canada’s most noted, and celebrated, member golf clubs. The current golf course is situated on land that housed nine holes that opened in 1906. It was the Thompson brothers who are the visionaries behind the foundation of the modern course, refining the existing work and adding another nine holes. Brantford is built on a rolling, rambling property, it’s a course that continues to be a joy to play. With holes overlooking the valley housing the Grand River, while others slink up hillsides towards near-perfect greensides, it takes a lifetime of play to sort out the course’s challenges.

Gavin Carver (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) shot a 5-over par 77 to finish the Canadian Junior Boys Championship T35 on the leaderboard.

Carver was the highest placing Manitoban at 3-over par 291 (70-72-72-77).

Brayden Boge (Rossmere Country Club) ended play at 10-over par 298 (73-72-78-75), T60 on the leaderboard.

British Columbia’s Tiger Xie won the 72 hole event at 16-under par 272.

Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles) finished 74th at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship at 37-over par 321 (79-78-84-80).

Ontario’s Shauna Liu earned a three stroke victory at 11-under par 273.

Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) was the lone Manitoban to advance to the final two rounds of the weather delayed Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Ontario.

With a 7-over par 78 in her second round, Thomas continued a busy Thursday carding an 84 in round three to sit 74th on the leaderboard at 28-over par 241.

Ontario’s Shauna Liu has a four stroke lead entering Friday’s final round at 12-under par 201 (69-67-65).

Gavin Carver (Team Manitoba / St. Charles) is T26 at 2-under par 214 going into the final round of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship after his second straight even par 72.

Brayden Boge (Rossmere Country Club) shot a 78 to sit 66th at 7-over par 223.

Michael Vivone of Ottawa is at 16-under par through 54 holes, good for a two stroke advantage on British Columbia’s Tiger Xie.

Carver and Boge both shot even par 72 during Wednesday’s second round – Carver is T18 on the leaderboard at 2-under par 142 while Boge is T39 at 1-over par 145.

Michael Vivone of Ottawa is atop of the leaderboard at 9-under par 135 following rounds of 68 and 67.

Canada’s top junior golfers will tee off in the 72-hole event and battle for the Silver Cup, awarded annually to the Canadian Junior Boys champion. The winner of the 2026 Canadian Junior Boys Championship will earn coveted exemptions into both the 2027 U.S. Junior Amateur and 122nd Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in 2027.  

“We have a great field ready to compete for our Canadian Junior Boys Championship,” said Rogan Doyle, Tournament Director, Golf Canada. “We would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Wascana Country Club for all the work they have put in to prepare the course as we welcome some of Canada’s best young talents to Regina.”

Ryan Mosher of Saskatoon headlines the list of in-season NextGen Championship winners teeing it up in his home province after claiming two wins in the month of June. Mosher won both the NextGen Western and NextGen Prairie Championship to earn his spot in the field.

Since 1938, the Canadian Junior Boys Championship has brought together the top junior talent in the country for four rounds of entertaining competition. Those to have previously claimed the Silver Cup have gone on to serve memorable careers in the game of golf, including Canadian Golf Hall of Famers Doug Silverberg (1950), George Knudson (1955), Gary Cowan (1956) and Doug Roxburgh (1970), as well as current PGA TOUR stars Nick Taylor and Adam Svensson who each won the tournament in 2006 and 2012 respectively.  

In addition to the 18-and-under championship, the 16-and-under Juvenile Championship has featured in the tournament since 1970, with the winner receiving the Jack Bailey Trophy.

The national championship will also feature an Inter-Provincial Team Championship that will run concurrently through the first 36 holes of competition. Each day, the lowest two out of three individual 18-hole scores will count towards the team score for players representing provinces. Representing Team Manitoba are Blair, Carver and Oakden.

Six members of the Golf Manitoba region are also teeing off Tuesday, in Caledon, Ontario at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Heathlands Course) for the Canadian Junior Girls Championship, presented by BDO.

The field is led by two-time defending champion and Team Canada NextGen member, Shauna Liu of Maple, Ontario. Last year, Liu became the ninth player in tournament history to win the national championship multiple times and the first back-to-back winner since Heather Kuzmich in 1982. Liu will be in search of the three-peat in Caledon and would again tie Kuzmich who was the last to win three straight between 1981 and 1983. Canadian Golf Hall of Famers, Sandra Post (1964-66) and Gail Harvey Moore (1958-60) are the only others to three-peat in tournament history.

Following the first two rounds of play, the field will be cut to the low 70 players and ties included in the final two rounds. Along with the Brokenshire Trophy, players aged 16 and under will compete for the Florence Harvey Trophy, awarded to the Juvenile division winner.

An inter-provincial team competition will take place over the first two rounds, featuring teams from all 10 provinces. Representing Team Manitoba are Lafleche, Sitarz and Thomas.

Inspired by Ireland’s Portmarnock Golf Club, the Heathlands course’s fescue-covered dunes, pot bunkers and severely sloped greens pay homage to classic golf design with one of the truest tests in Ontario. Once the carefully guarded secret of local aficionados, the course opened in 1992 and has become a favourite of those seeking a traditional golf experience and a stirring challenge that pays homage to the simple-yet-brilliant creativity of classic golf design. Heathlands is ranked in the top 25 for public golf courses in Canada and has been the long-time host venue of the Osprey Valley Open, a PGA TOUR Americas event.

The Championship was first contested in 1955 and operated by the former Canadian Ladies Association (CLGA) until the amalgamation of CLGA and Royal Canadian Golf Association (now Golf Canada) in 2005.

The Canadian Junior Girls Championship has a long list of distinguished past champions that have etched their name on the Brokenshire Trophy. Past champions include Canadian Golf Hall of Famers Lisa Meldrum (2000), Alena Sharp (1999), Sandra Post (1964-66), Betty Stanhope (1956), Judy Darling (1957), Gail Harvey Moore (1958-1960) and Gayle Borthwick (1961). LPGA Tour players Maude-Aimée Leblanc (2006), Brooke Henderson (2012) and Maddie Szeryk (2013) also lifted the Brokenshire Trophy.

The 2026 Canadian Junior Girls champion will receive an exemption into the 113^th  Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and both the 2027 Canadian Junior Girls Championship and 2027 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, if eligible.

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) shot a final round of 2-over par 74 Friday at the Canadian All Abilities Championship, presented by BDO.

With a 12-over par 228 total, Hammerback finished seventh in the gross stroke play division as Manitoba’s top performer. He also climbed four spots on the net stableford leaderboard to finish tied for sixth.

Matteo Lisoway (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club) had his best round of the week carding an 88 while Gurmit Sandhu (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) shot a 97.

Natasha Stasiuk of Oakville, Ont. carded a 10-over 82 in the final round to cap off her sixth victory in six years, following rounds of 84-77-82-243. Josh Williams of Tavistock, Ont. shot a 1-over 73 in the final to win back-to-back national championships in the men’s gross stroke play division, recording rounds of 74-70-73-217. Ian St John of Tramore, Ont. recorded 42 points in his final round to finish with a total of 112 and win his first men’s net stableford division title.

Due to inclement weather and heavy water pooling on the golf course, the final round was cancelled at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship presented by BDO at the Burlington Golf & Country Club.

Most players in the field were unable to tee off on Friday after play was suspended at 8:43 a.m. EDT. Golf Canada made the decision to conclude play at 36 holes shortly before noon as the golf course became unplayable.

With a 14-over par 158 total, Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) finished T28 in the Mid-Amateur division and T14 in the Mid-Master division.

Hannah Diamond (St. Charles Country Club) finished T35 at 17-over par 161 while Mindy Lichtman (St. Boniface Golf Club) finished T60 at 27-over par 171.

Lauren Greenlief of Oakton, Va. finished the tournament at 13-under following rounds of 65-66-131 to win her second Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship by seven shots.

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) had a strong performance during Thursday’s second round of the 2026 Canadian All Abilities Championship in Ontario.

Hammerback carded two birdies en route to a 3-over par 75 entering the final round at 10-over par 154. He sits eighth in the gross stroke play division and is tied for tenth in the net stableford division.

Matteo Lisoway (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club) is T33 in the gross stroke play division and 52 in the net stableford at 40-over par 184 following a 20-over par 92.

Gurmit Sandhu (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) shot 21-over par 93 to sit T36 in the gross stroke play division and 43 in the net stableford at 50-over par 194.

Josh Williams of Tavistock, Ont. shot a 2-under 70 to sit at the top of the leaderboard in both men’s divisions at even par 144, while Natasha Stusiuk of Oakville, Ont. shot a 5-over 77 to take the top spot in the women’s gross stroke play division at 17-over par 161. Emma Bittorf of Strathmore, Alta. leads the women’s net stableford division after adding 32 stableford points in today’s round for a total of 74 through two rounds.
