Championship Sunday at the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre

Six days of competition comes to an end Sunday morning at Breezy Bend Country Club as the Finals are set in the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

In the Senior Men’s division championship, #1 seed Rob Oliphant of Rossmere Country Club tees off at 8:00 against Niakwa Country Club’s Jay Doyle who entered this week as the third seed.

In the Men’s division championship at 8:07, #1 seed Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club plays #7 seed Thomas Scott of Dauphin Lake Golf Club.

Semi Final Saturday at the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre

The final four competitors in each of the Senior Men’s, Men’s and Women’s division have been determined and will tee off starting at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at Breezy Bend Country Club in the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

In the Senior Men’s division, #1 seed Rob Oliphant of Rossmere Country Club takes on #5 seed Ken Warwick of Niakwa Country club while defending champion Blair Neal, the #2 seed from Rossmere, will play Niakwa’s Jay Doyle who entered this week as the third seed.

In the Men’s division, top seed Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club tangles with #5 seed Evan Nachtigall of Shilo Country Club while a pair of players from Dauphin Lake Country Club will meet as #7 Thomas Scott goes up against #11 Eric Prokopowich.

WATCH | Kuntz prepares for U.S. Open Final Qualifier

Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend Country Club will tee off Monday at Cherry Hill Golf Club in Ridgeway, Ontario looking to earn a spot in the 2024 U.S. Open.

Kuntz will play 36 holes on the 7,067 yard par 72 course.

RECAP & WATCH | Day #3 of the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre

Three of the top five seeds advanced to the quarterfinals in the Men’s division of the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre at Breezy Bend Country Club.

#1 seed Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club won 2up over Justin McDonald of the host course, #4 seed Adam Ingram of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club eliminated Connor Stewart of Niakwa Country Club 5&4 while Shilo Country Club’s Evan Nachtigall beat Niakwa’s Jesse Miller 7&6.

Failing to advance were #2 seed Grady Chuback of St. Charles Country Club and #3 Terence Rafferty of Southwood Golf & Country Club. Elmhurst’s Kaleb Lambert knocked out Chuback 2&1 while Rafferty fell 5&3 to Trent Robertson of Niakwa.

Thursday is a day off for competition.

Action resumes Friday afternoon with the quarter finals in all three divisions.

Welcome Sandy Hook Golf Club

Golf Manitoba, in association with Golf Canada, is pleased to welcome Sandy Hook Golf Club as our newest member club.

Located 50 minutes north of Winnipeg between Highways 8 and 9 just north of Winnipeg Beach, this 18 hole course can be played from two sets of tee boxes ranging from 4,875 to 5,840 yards.

Sandy Hook Golf Golf also features a putting green and part time fully licensed restaurant. The pro shop offers both club and power cart rentals.

As an official Golf Manitoba / Canada member club, all rounds played at Sandy Hook Golf Club are acceptable for handicap purposes and may be recorded toward establishing or maintaining an official Golf Canada Handicap Index.

Trstenjak, Kartusch & Oliphant low qualifiers for Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre

Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club shot an 8-under par 63, one stroke off tying a course record, at Winkler Centennial Golf Club Sunday to finish with the low score of 55 Amateur Men vying for a spot in the 2024 Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

Trstenjak’s round featured a streak of six straight birdies on holes through 10 through 15. Grady Chuback of St. Charles Country Club and Terence Rafferty of Southwood Golf & Country Club tied for second at 1-under par 70.

Team Manitoba member Addison Kartusch of St. Charles fired the Women’s low round at 1-under par 70, two strokes better than Breezy Bend Country Club‘s Charmaine Hayden.

Rossmere Country Club‘s Rob Oliphant at 1-over par 72 edged clubmate Blair Neal by a single stroke in the Senior Men’s division.

Rossmere Country Club hosted members of the media from across the province Tuesday teeing off the 2024 Golf Manitoba season.

A few of them also had an opportunity to play with three time defending Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Champion Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend Country Club. Kuntz has returned home following his U.S. College season at Ball State University and is now preparing for the final stage of qualifying for the U.S. Open.

Golf Manitoba, in association with Golf Canada, is pleased to welcome Riverdale Golf Club as our newest member club.

Located seven kilometers west of the Town of Rivers off Highway 259, this 9 hole course can be played from two sets of tee boxes ranging from 2,854 to 3,030 yards.

“Our course is a gem that not many people from outside our area know about” said President Andy Gerrard. “It was established during World War Two as an old air force base course and has stood the test of time. A creek that runs through four of the holes keeps everyone on their toes.”

Riverdale Golf Club also features a putting green and a full service restaurant for all guests to enjoy.
