Doyle and Oliphant make the cut at Canadian Men’s Senior Championship

A round of even par 72 during the second round of the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship in Red Deer, Alberta has Jay Doyle of Niakwa Country Club T10 on the leaderboard.

Doyle carded five birdies and sits with a tournament total 4 over par 148.

Rob Oliphant of Rossmere Country Club shaved five strokes off his opening round and sits T51 (80-75-155) to make the cut by one stroke.

In the Inter-Provincial Team Competition, Manitoba (Doyle, Oliphant & Nicholson) finished in a tie for 5th place at +15. Alberta won the event at -1.

Goodwin takes home PGA of Manitoba Sigurdson Financial Fall Championship

Derrik Goodwin of Glendale Golf & Country Club shot a 2 under par 68 to claim the PGA of Manitoba Sigurdson Financial Fall Championship.

The 18 hole event was contested at Larters at St. Andrew’s Golf and Country Club.

Colwyn Abgrall of GolfTEC finished second on the leaderboard just two strokes back while Elmhurst Golf & Country Club’s Matt Lorenz and Bret
Thompson of Golf Mentor tied for third place with 71’s.

Doyle top Manitoban after Round 1 of Canadian Men’s Senior Championship

Jay Doyle of Niakwa Country Club carded a 4 over par 76 to sit T30 on the leaderboard after the opening round of the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship in Red Deer, Alberta.

Doyle’s round, which included consecutive birdies on the third and fourth holes, has him seven strokes off the lead held by Mike Lohner of Texas and Rusty Strawn of Georgia.

WATCH | Mackid top Manitoban in Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Breezy Bend Country Club

Shelly Stouffer of British Columbia shot even par 72 Thursday to finish at 3 over par 219 for a one stroke victory in the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Breezy Bend Country Club.

Charmaine Mackid of the host course was the highest placing Manitoban on the leaderboard at T9 after a 2 over par 74 and a 230 total.

Mackid also placed T6 in the Mid-Masters Championship.

Rhonda Orr of Southwood Golf & Country Club finished T10 in the Senior Championship at 232 following a final round 73.

In the Super Senior Championship, Orr ended play 5th on the leaderboard, 12 strokes back of top spot.

Diamond, Orr & van der Meer top Manitobans at Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Championship

Hannah Diamond of St. Charles Country Club, Kingswood Golf & Country Club’s Veronica van der Meer and Southwood Golf & Country Club’s Rhonda Orr carded the low rounds of the day for Manitoba’s entries in the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Championship at Breezy Bend Country Club.

All three ladies came in at 7 over par 79. For Diamond and van der Meer that’s good for T16 on the Mid-Amateur leaderboard while Orr is T12 in the Senior’s Championship and T6 in the Super Seniors.

Team Manitoba (Hannah Diamond, Veronica van der Meer & Charmaine Mackid) is tied for second place with Quebec in the Mid-Amateur Inter-Provincial Competition at +14. British Columbia leads at +2.

BC also leads the Senior Inter-Provincial Competition at +3. Manitoba (Rhonda Orr, Tammy Gibson & Matty Leung) is T5 at +18.

Breezy Bend Country Club set to host Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Championship

We are just a couple of days away from the start of the 2022 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Golf Championship and we couldn’t be more excited! Many of the top 100 women amateur golfers from across North America, aged 25 and over, will descend on Breezy Bend Country Club from August 29th to September 1st for the 51st playing of this event. 

Four individual trophies will be up for grabs at the 54-hole championship. Competitors over 25 will vie for the Mid-Amateur title, while players over 40 will be eligible to compete in the Mid-Master competition, and those over 50 will play for the Senior championship. Those over 60 will compete for the Super Senior title over the tournament’s first 36 holes. The golf course will be played at just under 6,000 yards.

The general public is most welcome to come out and watch all the action of the 2022 Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur & Senior Golf Championship!  Free admission!

Please observe the following guidelines when watching the Championship:

– Stay behind gallery ropes and follow directions of Golf Canada officials at all times.

– Be mindful of players preparing to hit their shots. 

– Please try to stay in the rough and do not cross fairways. 

– All mobile devices must be set to silent or vibrate at all times.

– Stay quiet and stand still when players are about to hit their shots.

– Please wear appropriate footwear such as sneakers or golf shoes.

– Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

– To provide protection from the sun, remember to wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. 

– Please do not engage in conversation with competitors, unless they initiate the conversation. 

– Spectators are welcome to bring their own chair (camping chair works best).

The Crossroads Canteen, Members Lounge and Patio will be open all week for all your food and beverage needs.

Bilawka & Teplitski combine to win Men’s Senior Fourball Championship

The inaugural Men’s Senior Fourball Championship came right down to the wire Friday at Oak Island Golf as the 2022 Open Championship required a countback.

Ron Bilawka and Todd Teplitski of Pine Ridge Golf Club combined to card a 4 under par 68 claiming top spot. Birdies on the 17th and 18th holes earned them the victory over Elmhurst Golf & Country Club members Carl Lechman and David Powell.

The duo of Brad Moore and Lawrence Zebiere, also of Pine Ridge, finished third with a 69, just one stroke back.

Bilawka and Teplitski also combined to win the Club Flight Championship.

Markusson wins Canadian Men’s Mid Master Championship

Curtis Markusson

Winnipeg’s Curtis Markusson shot an 8 over par 78 Friday during his final round of the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

With a 288 tournament total, Markusson won the Mid Master Division by one stroke over Ontario’s Mike Dinner and Rob Couture of Texas.

Overall, the St. Charles Country Club member finished in a tie for 12th place on the leaderboard for the Mid-Amateur Championship.

Charles Fitzsimmons on Ontario won the 2022 title shooting even par 70 in his final round to finish at 275.

Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend Country Club finished in a tie for 62nd place at 303 (76-74-74-79) while Elmhurst Golf & Country Club member Adam Guenther was 69th at 309 (72-78-81-78).
