The 2026 Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre is in the books at Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club.

David Kuik (Niakwa Country Club) won the Men’s Senior Championship with a 5&3 decision over David White (St. Charles Country Club). Kuik took control of the match winning five straight holes, seven through 11, to prevail on the 15th.

Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa) is the Women’s Champion edging Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) 2&1. Lafleche won three of the opening seven holes only to see Hayden bounce back with wins on eight and 12 to make it close.

Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club) beat Carl Lechman (Elmhurst) 5&4 to claim the first ever Men’s Super Senior title. North never trailed in the match and secured the victory taking holes nine, 10, 11 and 13 to run Lechman out of time.

And, in an all Elmhurst affair, David Spurr earned his first Golf Manitoba title winning the Men’s Championship 7&6 over Evan Nachtigall. Spurr struck early winning the first two holes and then locked it down winning consecutive holes five through nine.

Both the Women’s bracket and Men’s Super Senior backet are the only Championships with all four top seeds remaining. The Women’s Semi Finals open the day 7:30am with a family affair as the Lafleche sisters go head to head as #1 seed Jeri (Niakwa Country Club) plays Jewel (Niakwa), who is seeded 4th. #2 Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) will then take on #3 Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club).

The Men’s Super Senior Semis get underway at 7:48am featuring top seed Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club) against #4 Gordon Hudson (Southwood Golf & Country Club) followed by #2 Carl Lechman (Elmhurst) versus #3 Don Loewen (Larters at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club). Honourable mention to eighth seed Ted Antoniuk (Pine Ridge Golf Club) who forced North into a five hole playoff during their quarter final.

The Men’s Senior Final Four feature #5 David White (St. Charles) versus #8 Dan Scanlon (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) teeing off at 8:06am followed by #2 Jason Groshak (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) playing third seeded David Kuik (Niakwa).

The Men’s Semis conclude the morning draw at 8:24 with #8 David Spurr (Elmhurst) playing #13 Gavin Carver (Team Manitoba / St. Charles). Carver had the biggest upset in the Quarters with a 19 hole victory over fifth seed Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend). An epic Elmhurst showdown will see #2 Evan Nachtigall tangle with #6 Jordy Lutz.

As Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club hosts the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre, Golf Manitoba Director of Communications & Development Brian Munz caught up with Whispering Winds Owner / Operator Brian Campbell.

Following two days of competition, Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club is ready for a huge weekend as the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre moves into the Quarter Finals on Saturday.

#1 seed Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club) was upset in the Men’s Round of 16 by #16 seed Rylan Gordon (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) 2&1, #19 seed Adam Blair took out his brother, #3 seed Ryan Blair, on the first playoff hole and #13 Gavin Carver (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) beat #4 Rory Neill (Glendale Golf & Country Club) 2&1. That leaves all eyes on #2 seed Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club), #5 Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) and #6 Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst) as the favorites entering the weekend.

#16 seed Andre Martel (Glendale) won three of the five final holes in their match to pull off an impressive 1up victory over top seed David Powell (Elmhurst) in the Men’s Senior Championship. #11 Jay Doyle (Niakwa Country Club) eliminated defending champion Cornell Ruddock (Southwood Golf & Country Club), the #6 seed, 1up. Second seed Jason Groshak (Elmhurst) and #3 David Kuik (Niakwa) are the headliners still alive.

All four top seeds advanced in the Men’s Super Senior Championship: #1 Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club), #2 Carl Lechman (Elmhurst), #3 Don Loewen (Larters at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club) and #4 Gordon Hudson (Southwood). #12 seed Mike Berney (Delahunt Golf & Country Club) pulled off a come from behind victory winning the 17th, 18th and first playoff holes to knock out #5 Dwayne Heinrichs (Bel Acres Golf & Country Club).

There were no upsets to open the Women’s Championship. 9th seed Kora Montour (Scotswood Links) pushed #8 seed Rachel Harms (Elmhurst) beyond regulation before falling on the first playoff hole. #1 Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa), #2 Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend), and 3rd seed Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles) and Jewel Lafleche (Niakwa) headline the final eight.

The top 11 seeds in the Men’s Championship and seven of the top eight seeds in the Men’s Senior Championship are still alive heading into the Round of 16 on Friday at Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club as the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre continues.

The most interesting challenge of Thursday’s opening draw saw Matt Glowa of the host course take #1 seed Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club) all the way to the 18th hole.

The upset of note in the Men’s Senior Championship saw #29 seed Michael Linton (St. Charles Country Club) defeat #4 seed Rob Oliphant (Rossmere Country Club) 2&1.

Seeing their first action on Friday are competitors in the all new Men’s Super Senior Championship where Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club), Carl Lechman (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and Don Loewen (Larters at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club) are the top three seeds.

Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa), Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club), Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles), Jewel Lafleche (Niakwa), Hannah Diamond (St. Charles) and Makenzie Bartlett (Team Manitoba / Carman) are the top six seeds respectively in the Women’s Championship and receive a bye into Saturday’s quarter finals based on registration numbers.

16 matches in each of the Men’s Championship and Men’s Senior Championship are the focus Thursday afternoon at Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club as the Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre tees off starting at 1:00pm.

2025 Men’s defending champion Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) enters play as the #6 seed following this past weekend’s qualifier at Scotswood Links and will open the Round of 32 versus Nolan Tutkaluk (Shilo Country Club). Saturday’s Medallist, Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club), is the #1 seed and will face Matt Glowa of the host course in the Round of 32.

David Powell (Elmhurst) is the top seed in the Men’s Senior Championship and take on Daniel Lamy (La Broquerie Golf). 2025 defending champion Cornell Ruddock (Southwood Golf & Country Club), seeded 6th, meets Murray Widdifield (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club).

The Round of 16 in both the Men’s Super Senior Championship and Women’s Championship begin play Friday afternoon.

Lyle MacKenzie (Niakwa Country Club) carded a 4-under par 66 to finish as the 2026 Medallist in the Men’s Amateur Division of the Match Play Championship Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre on Saturday at Scotswood Links. MacKenzie made five birdies, 12 pars and one bogey enroute to a one stroke victory over Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club), Ryan Blair (Elmhurst) and Rory Neill (Glendale Golf & Country Club). Last year it was Nachtigall who prevailed by three strokes over MacKenzie to earn the low qualifying medallion.

David Powell (Elmhurst), the only player to go below par, was the low qualifier in the Men’s Senior Division thanks a 1-under 69. Jason Groshak (Elmhurst) and David Kuik (Niakwa) finished T2 at 1-over par 71.

Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club) finished atop of the leaderboard in the new Men’s Super Senior Division at 2-under par 67, two strokes clear of Carl Lechman (Elmhurst) and Don Loewen (Larters at St. Andrew’s Golf & Country Club).

Firing a 1-under par 68, Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa) had the most dominating performance of the day in the Women’s Division earning an eight stroke decision over Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) and Camryn Thomas (St. Charles Country Club).

Included in this year’s field are defending Men’s Match Play Champion Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club), 2025 Men’s Match Play Medallist Evan Nachtigall (Elmhurst), defending Men’s Senior Match Play Champion Cornell Ruddock (Southwood Golf & Country Club) along with 2025 Men’s Senior Match Play Medallist and 2024 Men’s Senior Match Play Champion Rob Oliphant (Rossmere Country Club).

Bruce North (Carman Golf & Curling Club), Carl Lechman (Elmhurst) and Dwayne Heinrichs (Bel Acres Golf & Country Club) headline the new Men’s Super Senior Division Championship for competitors aged 65+.

There will be a new Women’s Match Play Champion as four time winner and three time defending champion Addison Kartusch (St. Charles Country Club) is not taking part. Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club), Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) and Jewel Lafleche (Niakwa) lead the women into qualifying.

“Newcomers to our course should expect a course that can be tough if players aren’t on top of their game, as we have water that comes into play on nearly every hole of the golf course, so there is definitely trouble to be found if you don’t hit where you’re supposed to” said Clark Sisson of Scotswood Links. “But I also expect some pretty good scores as well. I would say Hole #18 is the most difficult, with some players qualifying for or being eliminated from the championship based on the finishing hole.”

Golf Manitoba is pleased to announce its 2026 Championship Schedule.

The 2026 championship season begins May 23^rd at Scotswood Links with the Match Play Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre and concludes with the Taylor McCaffrey Men’s Senior Four-Ball Championship on September 2^nd at Killarney Lakeside Golf Club.

“Thanks to the generosity of the management, staff and membership, we are excited to see our competitors get a chance to play at these courses across the province” said Director of Competition and Rules Sam Beavis-Hickey. “Without the co-operation of our member facilities we would not be able to host as many great events as we do.”

Early registration will open from April 1^st to April 15^th for select players and based on their finish in 2025 Golf Manitoba Championships. These players will receive an email informing them of their status.

General registration will open on April 16^th.

2026 Golf Manitoba Championship Season Calendar at a glance:

The first competitive tee in the ground will be May 23^rd at Scotswood Links for the Match Play Championship Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club will host the championship matches from May 28^th to 31^st.

The All Abilities Championship, Women’s City & District Championship and U15 Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation is scheduled for June 13^th and 14^th at Winkler Centennial Golf Course. Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) is the three time defending champion and only winner since the inception of the All Abilities Championship in 2022. Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) looks to build on her 2024 and 2025 back to back Women’s City & District championships.

If needed, the Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Qualifier will be June 26^th at Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club.

The Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur and Women’s Amateur Championships will be contested at Gilbert Plains Country Club July 1^st to 3^rd. Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend) and Addison Kartusch (St. Charles Country Club) will also look to defend their respective 2024 and 2025 back to back championships.

Pine Ridge Golf Club will host the Junior Boys & Girls Championships presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation July 7^th to 9^th. There will be a new Junior Girls Champion in 2026 as two time defending and three time champion Addison Kartusch (St. Charles) has aged out.

The Nott Autocorp Men’s Amateur Championship will be held July 13^th to 15^th at St. Boniface Golf Club. 

Rossmere Country Club welcomes the Junior Skills Challenge on July 19^th.

The Hodson Financial Men’s & Women’s Senior Championship is slated for Breezy Bend Country Club July 27th to 29th. Rhonda Orr (Southwood) will be vying for her 11^th straight and 13^th Senior Women’s Championship.

On August 19^th, Oakwood Golf Course hosts the Taylor McCaffrey Women’s Four-Ball Championship.

The Taylor McCaffrey Men’s Four-Ball Championship is scheduled for August 27^th at Lake of the Sandhills Golf Course at Buffalo Point.

The Taylor McCaffrey Men’s Senior Four-Ball Championship at Killarney Lakeside Golf Club on September 2^nd concludes our championship season of competition.

As the Provincial Sport Organization and governing body of golf in Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, Golf Manitoba conducts premier amateur golf championships to support the development of the province’s competitive golfers at Golf Manitoba member clubs.

Addison Kartusch (St. Charles Country Club), Jordy Lutz (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) and Cornell Ruddock (Southwood Golf & Country Club) are the gold medal winners of the 2025 Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

Kartusch won the Women’s Division for the second straight year and fourth time in her career defeating Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) 3&1.

Lutz earned his second Men’s Division Championship beating Michael Tanchak (Niakwa) 2&1. He also struck gold in 2018.

For Ruddock, it is his first Golf Manitoba provincial championship, a 3&2 decision over Blair Neal (Rossmere Country Club)
