Golf Manitoba Director of Competitions & Rules Sam Beavis-Hickey is pleased to announce the addition of two new divisions to the 2026 Golf Manitoba Match Play Championship Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

Competitors will now have the opportunity to participate in the Men’s Super Senior (65+) and Women’s Senior (50+) divisions, expanding the total to five brackets for Match Play competition.

The Match Play Qualifier is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd at Scotswood Links with the Match Play Championship to follow Thursday, May 28th to Sunday, May 31st at Whispering Winds of Warren Golf & Country Club.

Registration for the qualifier is open and closes on May 2nd at 11:59 PM.

To be eligible:

– Super Senior Men must be aged 65 or older with a Handicap Index of 20.0 or less.
– Senior Women’s division is open to players aged 50 and over with a Handicap Index of 25.0 or less.

All age categories are calculated as of May 23, the day of the qualifier.

“These new divisions reflect Golf Manitoba’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and competitive opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels” said Beavis-Hickey. “The introduction of these two new divisions are expected to enhance the championship experience and continue the growth of amateur golf across the region.”

The qualifier will consist of an 18-hole stroke play competition, with formats tailored to each division. The Super Senior Men will compete using GROSS scores, with the low 16 players advancing to the match play championship. Should the field include 15 players or fewer, top seeds will receive a bye into the quarterfinal round.

The Senior Women’s division will compete using NET scores. The low 8 players will advance to match play, with byes to the semifinals awarded if the field includes 8 players or fewer.

The championship stage will feature single-elimination match play brackets. The Super Senior Men’s division will include a 16-player bracket requiring four match wins to claim the title. The Senior Women’s division will consist of an 8-player bracket, with three match wins needed to become champion.

Players interested in competing are encouraged to register early, as fields are limited to 20 players for Super Senior Men and 12 players for Senior Women.

Evan Nachtigall of Shilo Country Club shot a 6-under par 65 at Winkler Centennial Golf Club Saturday to finish with the low score of 77 Amateur Men vying for a spot in the 2025 Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre. Nachtigall birdied four of the final five holes to finish three strokes better than Lyle MacKenzie of Niakwa Country Club.

Cala Korman of Killarney Lakeside Golf Club made four birdies carding the Women’s low round at 3-under par 68, one stroke better than Niakwa’s Jeri Lafleche.

Rossmere Country Club‘s Rob Oliphant repeated as the low qualifier in the Senior Men’s Division at 4-under par 67, six strokes ahead of Cornell Ruddock of Southwood Golf & Country Club and Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Dan Scanlon.

Early registration for all 2025 Golf Manitoba championships is now available as of Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 9am CST. Golf Manitoba is entering its fourth season using Golf Genius for its Tournament Management Software including all registrations. Early registration is for competitors based on their past results.  

General registration for all interested competitors will open on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 9am CST.

To be eligible to compete in Golf Manitoba competitions, players must be an active Golf Manitoba/Canada member through a member club or the Golf Manitoba Public Player Program, and must also hold an up-to-date Golf Canada Handicap Index visible on the Golf Canada Score Centre at the time of registration.

Golf Genius

The championship registration process is easier, less time consuming and accessible through Golf Canada’s Score Centre. To enter all Golf Manitoba events, you must first log into your Golf Canada Score Centre profile using a web browser, please note that you will not be able to log-in through the Golf Canada app. 

Please ensure the following is updated in your Golf Canada Score Centre profile:

• Date of birth
• Address
• City, province and postal code
• Cell number
• Email address
• Current handicap index

How To Register

To enter an event, you must first log-in to your Golf Canada Score Centre account.  Next, you must select the competitions tab found under the user menu on the top right-hand side of the web page. Please see image below:

This competitions tab will take you to the championship page. From here you will select the event that you wish to register in and complete the registration process.

Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club shot an 8-under par 63, one stroke off tying a course record, at Winkler Centennial Golf Club Sunday to finish with the low score of 55 Amateur Men vying for a spot in the 2024 Manitoba Match Play Championship presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

Trstenjak’s round featured a streak of six straight birdies on holes through 10 through 15. Grady Chuback of St. Charles Country Club and Terence Rafferty of Southwood Golf & Country Club tied for second at 1-under par 70.

Team Manitoba member Addison Kartusch of St. Charles fired the Women’s low round at 1-under par 70, two strokes better than Breezy Bend Country Club‘s Charmaine Hayden.

Rossmere Country Club‘s Rob Oliphant at 1-over par 72 edged clubmate Blair Neal by a single stroke in the Senior Men’s division.

The 2024 Golf Manitoba Championship calendar tees off Sunday morning at Winkler Centennial Golf Club as 92 competitors take part in the Manitoba Match Play Championship Qualifier presented by St. Vital Dental Centre.

They are vying for a spot in the brackets of 32 men, eight women and 16 senior men to be contested Monday, May 27th to Sunday, June 2nd at Breezy Bend Country Club.

There will be a new men’s champion in 2024 as defending champion Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend is unable to attend due to the U.S. Open Qualifier. 2022 champion Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club is back vying for another title.

Rossmere Country Club’s Blair Neal returns to defend his senior men’s championship.

Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club also returns to defend her crown in the women’s bracket.
