RESULTS: Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour at Rossmere Country Club

Aris Mercury of Winnipeg had the low round of the day carding a 74 to win the Boys 11-12 year old division during the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour at Rossmere Country Club.

Mercury finished three strokes better than Dylan McFayden, also of Winnipeg.

Owen Conrad of Winnipeg, with an 83, won the Boys 9-10 division.

Forrest Wiebe of Macgregor shot an 86 to finish first in the Boys under 8 division.

Maisy Shewchuk of Winnipeg is the Girls under 8 division champion following an 83.

Wheat City Golf & Country Club and Niakwa Country Club win Men’s Interclub Championships

The Wheat City Golf & Country Club and Niakwa Country Club are the Provincial Men’s Interclub Champions following the annual 18 hole event today at the Neepawa Golf & Country Club.

Wheat City wins the Rural Division championship with the best three person combined score of 223, finishing six strokes better than the host club. Evan Nachtigall led the way with a one over par 73. Ty Lewis followed with a 74 while Ross Sheard and Ryan McKean each carded a 76.

The team of Connor Stewart (78), Colin Skoleski (79), Trent Robertson (80) and Jayson Nickol (83) led Niakwa to a two stroke victory in the City Division over the Southwood Golf and Country Club and Kildonan Park Golf Course.

Individually, Drew Jones of Shilo Country Club had the low round of the day with a five under par 67.

WATCH & RESULTS – Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge at St. Vital Golf Centre

43 golfers aged 5 to 18 gathered at the St. Vital Golf Centre this afternoon taking part in the Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge.

Here are the respective division first and second place finishers:

8 and under boys: 1st Ryan Small, 2nd Landon Baxter
8 and under girls: 1st Sadie Blazeiko, 2nd Hazel Stitt
9 – 11 boys: 1st Owen Conrad, 2nd Jack Ladobruk
9 – 11 girls: 1st Camryn Ladobruk, Lila Chubey
12 – 14 boys: 1st Teerawut Boonseeor, 2nd Adam Blair
12 – 14 girls: 1st Payton Oakden

Fitzsimmons wins Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur, Werhun top Manitoban

Charles Fitzsimmons of London, Ontario was the only competitior to finish under par and finished with a four stroke victory at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Jack Werhun of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club carded his second consecutive one under par 71 and finished 11th on the leaderboard with a 298 total.

Ben Bandura, with a 74 in his final round and 301 total, finished second in the Mid Masters Division.

Manitoba Match Play Champions crowned at Grand Pines Golf Course

The future of provincial ladies golf took centre stage Thursday at Grand Pines Golf Course as Addison Kartusch and Cala Korman, two members of the Golf Manitoba Junior Girls Development Program, played for the Manitoba Match Play Women’s Championship.

Kartusch, a member at St. Charles Country Club, beat Korman 3&1.

The other two final matches each required an extra hole.

The Senior Men’s Final featured Niakwa Country Club members Lorne Duncan and Ken Warwick. Duncan prevailed on the 19th hole.

Lyle Mackenzie, also of Niakwa, edged Brent Ingram of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club on the first playoff hole as well.

Werhun top Manitoban after 3rd round of Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur

Jack Werhun of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club shot a one under par 71 Thursday in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is tied for 15th on the leaderboard at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

With a 54 hole 227 total, Werhun is 15 strokes back of leader Neil Thomas of Edmonton.

Ben Bandura, also of Elmhurst, is at 227. Bandura is one stroke off the lead in the Mid-Masters division following a 75 in his third round.

Championship Matches set for Manitoba Match Play at Grand Pines Golf Course

The 2021 Manitoba Match Play Championship Division Finals are set to tee off at 1:00 this afternoon at Grand Pines Golf Course.

In the Women’s Final, Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club meets Cala Korman of Killarney Lakeside Golf Course.

In an all Niakwa Country Club match up, Lorne Duncan will play Ken Warwick in the Senior Men’s Final.

Brent Ingram of Elmhurst Golf & Country Club plays Lyle Mackenzie of Niakwa Country Club in the Men’s Final.

Semi Finals set for Manitoba Match Play Championship

The Men’s, Women’s and Senior Men’s Divisions are down to their respective final four competitors at the Manitoba Match Play Championship following a busy Wednesday at the Grand Pines Golf Course.

Due to inclement weather Tuesday, a number of golfers had to continue their first round matches at 7am prior to their regularly scheduled Quarter Finals.

Doerksen leads Manitobans at Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur

Delwyn Doerksen of Altona is the top Manitoban after 36 holes of play at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Doerksen, a Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member, shot a one over par 73 and is currently tied for 10th on the leaderboard with a two day total 150

Charles Fitzsimmons of Ontario is atop of the leaderboard shooting even par 72 and leads with a two day total 142.

Elmhurst Golf & Country Club’s Ben Bandura shot a 74 in his second round and is only two strokes off the lead in the Mid-Masters Division. Glen Robinson of Nova Scotia is at 150 (76-74) after 36 holes to lead the way.

Doyle top Manitoban after opening round of Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur

Jay Doyle of Niakwa Country Club is six strokes off the lead and the top Manitoban at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Doyle carded a four over 74 in a round that included one birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys.

Charles Fitzsimmons of Ontario is atop of the leaderboard following a two under 70.

Doyle’s 74 also has him only two strokes off the lead in the Mid-Masters Division. Norman Bradley of British Columbia leads following a 72.
