Rory Neill (Glendale Golf & Country Club) carded a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday to open the Canadian University / College Championships in Quebec and will enter the second round T5 on the leaderboard, just three strokes off the lead.

Neill’s round featured four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey.

Luke Macpherson of Queen’s is alone in first place through 18 holes following a bogey free 6-under par 66.

A memorable weekend at Winkler Centennial Golf Course came to an end late Sunday afternoon as the Champions were crowned in the 2026 All Abilities, U15 and Women’s City & District Championships.

Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) earned his fourth consecutive All Abilities Gross Division Championship shooting an impressive 2-under par 69 for an eight stroke victory over Spencer Easthope and Dave Marchand, both of Alberta. Hammerback finished at 5-over par 145. Marchand won the Net Stableford Division Championship with 79 points, four better than Hammerback.

Golf Manitoba would also like to congratulate Patrick Cloutier on shooting a 48 to win the nine hole Special Olympics Division Championship on Sunday morning by six strokes over Matthew Watters.

Grant Secord (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) carded a 1-over par 72 in his final round to win the the U15 Boys Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation with a 7-over par 149 total, eight strokes ahead of Ty Montour (Team Manitoba / (Scotswood Links).

Jack Holmes (Southwood) won the Boys 12 & Under title with a 1-over par 72 and a 15-over par 155 total besting Ethan Sitarz (Team Manitoba / Elmhurst) by six strokes.

Angelina Sitarz (Team Manitoba / Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) had a 4-over par 74 to win her second consecutive U15 Girls Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation. At 11-over par 152, Sitarz won by 20 strokes over Makenzie Bartlett (Carman Golf & Curling Club).

Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles) is the Women’s City & District Champion, earning a one stroke victory over Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club). With a 78 on Sunday, Thomas ended play at 17-over par 159 while Hayden had an 80 to finish at 160.

Course Enhancements and Operations

• The club is currently undertaking improvements to the 14th hole, including the addition of a pond, updated tee boxes, and water retention features designed to alleviate pressure on the city’s sewer system.
• The project, funded by a city grant and club members, aims to provide more flexibility through multiple tee options ranging from 120 to 225 yards.
• The 14th hole is expected to reopen for the members’ opening day on June 13th.

Community and Membership

• The club is widely recognized as “the people’s course,” known for its friendly atmosphere and welcoming nature.
• An open house for the public and former members is scheduled for August 16th, featuring tours and a barbecue.

Historical Perspective

• Duncan, who has been with the club for 68 years, recalls the course originally starting as a nine-hole layout and walks us through the magic of being a Rossmere Country Club member.

Golf fans in Manitoba have watched Braxton Kuntz (Breezy Bend Country Club) grow into one of Canada’s up and coming stars.

Today, at Lakes Golf & Country Club in Westerville, Ohio, Kuntz finished the 36 hole qualifier at 8-under par 136 (69-67), only to miss earning one of four spots to play in the U.S. Open by a single stroke.

In his opening round of the day, Kuntz played the front nine at 1-under par, then followed it up with two birdies and seven pars on the back nine for a 3-under par 69.

Kuntz resumed his day with pars on the opening two holes, only to suffer to then bogey the par-5 third. He bounced back with three consecutive birdies to go 2-under on the front. A birdie on 10, pars on 11 and 12, a bogey on 13 and a par on the 14th set the stage for another dramatic run of three straight birds on holes 15 through 17. Kuntz’s day came to an end with a par on the final hole.

Kuntz has been designated by the United States Golf Association (USGA) as the second alternate should two of the four qualifiers be unable to participate in the U.S. Open.

The team of Kerry Barkman and Thomas Friesen (Shilo Country Club) had a tremendous showing Saturday at the 2026 BDO National Golf League Championship at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Heathlands course) in Caledon, Ontario.

Using the best ball net modified stableford scoring system, Barkman, who played to a 16 handicap index, and Friesen, who played to a two handicap index, combined for 35 points, just three points shy of first place.

The teams of Daniel Beaupre and Benoit Mowbray (Glen Lea Golf Course) along with Daniel Chubey and Chad Willis (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) each recorded 32 points.

Trevor Luedee and Jamie Pilkington of Manotick, Ontario, won the event in a playoff.

Play Your Way to the 2027 RBC Canadian Open

As we look ahead to the 2027 Championship, over 1,300 Golf Manitoba members have already registered to compete for an opportunity to represent the region at next year’s BDO National Golf League Final that will again be played at the host site of the 2027 RBC Canadian Open.

To participate, simply be a Golf Manitoba/Golf Canada member (easy to join if not already a member!) and pay a $20 entry fee for the season. Golfers will continue to play normal rounds at any Golf Manitoba/Canada member club.  One round can be posted during the each of the following time periods:

• June 1-15, June 16-31
• July 1-15, July 16-31
• August 1-15, Aug. 16-31

You can play up to six rounds of 9 holes of which your best four scores will count. This is your pathway to the Provincial Championship which will be held on Sunday, September 20^th at Falcon Lake Golf Course.

About the NGL

Launched by Golf Canada ahead of the 2023 season as a nationwide, season-long competition to enhance weekly recreational league experiences for men, women and junior golfers. The NGL has seen substantial growth since the inaugural season, with 271 leagues now set to compete this coming season, up from 130 leagues last season; and over 30,000 participants having competed since launching in 2023. The additional of several indoor member facilities across the country and simulator qualifiers has brought forward a number of new players into the league.

Those who participate in the NGL season play a lively role in growing the sport in their community as well, with 100 per cent of the league’s proceeds benefiting First Tee – Canada in their respective provinces around the country.
