Orr leads Manitoba through 18 holes at Canadian Women’s Senior Championship

Fresh off competing at the U.S. Women’s Senior Open in Portland, Oregon, Winnipeg’s Rhonda Orr (Southwood Golf & Country Club) is on the Canadian east coast for the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship.

Orr had Manitoba’s low round of the day shooting a 4-over par 76, to sit only four strokes off the lead in the Senior’s division at Mill River Golf Resort.

In the Super Senior’s division, Orr trails American Amy Ellertson by two strokes for first place.

Also representing Golf Manitoba are:

Tammy Gibson (Niakwa Country Club) 83
Susan Wright-Cassan (Emerald Greens Golf Club) 89
Lisa Benson (St. Charles Country Club) 92
Heather Shayna (Southwood) 92
Mary Turner (Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) 92

Following tomorrow’s second round the field will be reduced to the low 70 players and ties, based off the Senior division. A minimum of five Super Seniors will make the cut and anyone within ten shorts of the Super Senior leader.

In the Inter Provincial Team Competition, Manitoba (Orr & Gibson) combined for a 15-over par 159 total, good for fourth place. Ontario leads at 3-over par.
