Jeremy Kirk (Fort William Country Club) and Addison Kartusch (St. Charles Country Club) are the leaders following 36 holes of play at the Diamond Athletic Men’s Mid-Amateur & Women’s Amateur Championships at St. Charles.
Kirk shot even par 72 Thursday to sit at 2-under par for the tournament, one stroke better than Allan McDonald (Breezy Bend Country Club) on the Men’s Mid-Amateur leaderboard. McDonald, the defending champion, bounced back from an opening round 75 with three birdies in his first four holes en route to a 4-under par 68.
The best score of the day belonged to Todd Fanning (Niakwa Country Club). He carded a 6-under par 66 and goes into the final 18 holes just two strokes off the lead. Fanning’s round featured an eagle on the par 4 – 12th hole and seven birdies.
Curtis Markusson (St. Charles) is also tied for third place with Fanning after his second straight 72.
Fanning and Markusson share the Mid-Masters Championship lead by three strokes over David Spurr (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club).

In the Women’s Amateur Championship, it’s Kartusch at 1-under par for the tournament, three strokes ahead of Clara Peake (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club). Both players shot a 2-under par 70 in their second round. Peake made four birdies on holes 1, 5, 7 and 9 to get the day rolling while Kartusch finished with birdies on the 14th, 15 and 17th holes.
Cala Korman (Killarney Lakeside Golf Club) rounds out the top three at 4-over par following a 72.
Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend) has a two stroke lead in the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship on Rhonda Orr (Southwood Golf & Country Club). Hayden had a 73 while Orr shot 80. Mindy Lichtman (St. Boniface Golf Club) is in third place, four strokes off the lead.
