We mourn the passing of Dennis Langrell
On behalf of the Golf Manitoba community, we send our condolences to the Langrell family following the passing of avid golfer and volunteer Dennis Langrell (July 28, 1954 to April 28, 2021).
Dennis was a devoted volunteer with Golf Manitoba giving generously of his time for over 28 years. He served in various compacities including player development, officiating and most recently as the president of the Golf Manitoba Scholarship Fund.
“Dennis was the Boys Junior Chairperson for Golf Manitoba. I have so many great memories of Dennis and feel very fortunate to get to know him the way I did. He played a huge role for Junior Development in our province. Dennis assisted me with Mundie Putter teams, numerous junior camps and went with us as the non playing captain for Golf Manitoba at the Canadian Junior and Western Canadian Juvenile Championship. His passion for junior development and the game of golf was truly admirable” said Garth Goodbrandson, former Golf Manitoba Director of Player Development.

Manitoba’s 1st Hole In One of 2021
It was a memorable start to the 2021 golf season for Winnipeg’s Madray Pillay (@MrPillay18).
Playing early Saturday afternoon at Quarry Oaks Golf Course with nine friends separated into three groups, Pillay registered his first ever ace on the par 3, 123 yard 8th hole.
“It was a windy day so I hit a 9 iron instead of a pitching wedge that I would usually hit. I didn’t actually see the ball go in the hole, I knew it was a good shot so thought it would be close by. When we walked up to the green, my buddy said I think you have a hole in one, there’s no ball on the green. So my buddy walked up and looked in the hole and there it was. He told me I had to take it out myself”.
The shot was witness by playing partners Paul Balkaran, Joe Marrast and Kris Nancoo.
Pillay says he’s been golfing for close to 30 years and believes the pressure is now off with a full summer ahead of him to just enjoy the game.
Golf Manitoba & The Healthy Nut Announce Partnership
Golf Manitoba is pleased to welcome The Healthy Nut Protein Bar Company as a new corporate partner. The Healthy Nut Bar Company will be a presenting sponsor at the Diamond Athletic Men’s and Women’s Amateur and Mid Amateur Golf Championships taking place July 9-11, 2021 at the Niakwa Country Club.
The Healthy Nut, featuring locally sourced flax seed, is a Manitoba based company created in 2020 to fulfill hunger for a healthy lifestyle. Their multi flavoured protein bars are made with whey isolate protein powder using whole ingredients and are full of natural nutrients we may not get from our everyday diet.
“There comes a time that when you’re halfway through a round you’re feeling lethargic, needing a pick me up so these types of bars have a lot of gluten fats in them from the nuts, butters and seeds,” said Michelle Gospic, CEO of the Healthy Nut. “That good fat is a better snack than if you were to buy something off the shelf which is high in sugar, our only sweetness in our bars is honey. Golfers are doing a lot of walking, our Healthy Nut bars sustain them when they start running out of juice.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Michelle and her staff at the Healthy Nut Protein Bar company,” commented Jared Ladobruk, Executive Director of Golf Manitoba. “They are a fresh and healthy alternative for golfers who are looking for an ideal mix of energy and recovery to help them achieve their best on the course. All competitors in the Diamond Athletic Men’s and Women’s Amateur and Mid Amateur Golf Championships will receive bars during the event to find out how effective they really are”.
The Healthy Nut features a variety of bar flavours to choose from and will introduce Vegan, Keto and Gluten Free Bars soon.
More information is available on The Healthy Nut website.
