Golf Manitoba, in association with Golf Canada, is pleased to welcome to Kitchen Creek Golf Course as our newest member club.

Located just west of Fort Frances in Northwestern Ontario, this 18 hole course can be played from three sets of tee boxes ranging from 5,638 to 6,424 yards.

Now in their second season under new management group Little Otter Development Corporation, Kitchen Creek is described as “a course with all types of challenges for any skill level, we definitely have a mix golfers will enjoy” said Manager of Operations Ron MacKinnon. 

“The creek runs through at least half of our holes so you need to hit your targets, however with the width of some of our fairways you can go after the course too” added Head Golf Instructor Christin Thomson.  “Our greens are in real nice shape, but you have to be in the right spot below the hole if you intend to score well”.

Golfers can warm up on the 200 yard practice range as well as the putting green.

The clubhouse restaurant features a full menu to enjoy inside or while dining outside on the patio.

As an official Golf Manitoba / Canada member club, all rounds played at Kitchen Creek Golf Course are acceptable for handicap purposes and may be recorded toward establishing or maintaining an official Golf Canada Handicap Index.

A busy four days of golf came to end this afternoon for a number of Manitoba’s top junior golfers.

After competing in the Golf Manitoba Bantam Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation over the weekend at Transcona Golf Club, many continued on to the Selkirk Golf & Country Club for two days in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Manitoba Series.

Golf Manitoba Women’s Bantam Champion Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg won the Under 15 Girls Championship at 173 (87-86), good for a 9 stroke victory over Addison Kartusch, also of Winnipeg.

Mikyla Albert of Selkirk (83-77) had a two day total 160, edging Cala Korman of Killarney (86-75) and Crystal Zamzow of Swan River (86-75) by a single stroke to win the Girls 15-19 Division.

The Pee Wee Boys Championship needed a playoff following Winnipeg’s Mason Chubey (82-79) and Hudson Hunnie (79-82) tying at 161. Chubey was the winner after a second playoff hole on a count back.

Golf Manitoba Bantam Boys Champion Jackson Delaurier of Dauphin (77-75) won the Bantam Boys Division by four strokes over Payne Wood of Winnipeg (78-78).

It was a five stroke victory for Jack Taylor of Winnipeg (73-72) in the Juvenile Boys Championship. He beat Jack Rudick (76-74) and Jacob Taweel (76-74), both of Winnipeg.

Noah Fiks of WInnipeg (70-75) won the Junior Boys Division by two strokes over Braxton Kuntz (74-73), also of the Manitoba Capital.

After a busy weekend at Transcona Golf Club playing in the Bantam Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation, a number of Manitoba’s top junior golfers were back on the course today starting the two day Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Manitoba Series.

Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg, who won the Golf Manitoba Bantam Women’s Championship yesterday, leads the Under 15 Girls event opening with an 86 today. That’s good for 9 stroke lead over Brandon’s Payton Oakden.

Mikyla Albert of Selkirk has a two stroke lead over Binscarth’s Clara Peake after shooting an 83.

Hudson Hunnie of Winnipeg opened the Pee Wee Boys division with a 79, that’s 3 strokes better than Mason Chubey of Winnipeg.

Golf Manitoba Men’s Bantam Champion Jackson Delaurier of Dauphin is tied with Winnipeg’s Brayden Boge at 77 to lead the Bantam Boys division. They are one stroke better than Liam Comaskey of Oakbank of Payne Wood of Winnipeg.

Jack Taylor of Winnipeg leads Oakbank’s Chase Janas by one stroke in Juvenile Boys action after opening with a 73.

Winnipeg’s Noah Fiks opened the Junior Boys division shooting a 70 and has a four stroke advantage over Braxton Kuntz, also of Winnipeg.

A birdie on each of the opening and second holes set the stage for Shilo Country Club’s Bobbi Uhl to win her first Women’s City & District Championship.

Uhl carded a six over par 77 to finish the two day event at 156, good for a two stroke victory over Rhonda Orr of Southwood Golf & Country Club (82-77).

First round leader, 15 year old Crystal Zamzow of Swan River Golf & Country Club, finished third on the leaderboard shooting a final round 85 to finish seven strokes behind Uhl.

Jackson Delaurier, a Golf Manitoba Public Player, shot back to back 75’s to win the Men’s Bantam Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation. Delaurier finished one stroke better than Brayden Boge of Pine Ridge Golf Club (74-77) and two strokes ahead of another Golf Manitoba Public Player, Terence Rafferty (77-75)

Rafferty wins the 13 & 14 age division Championship.

Hunter Oakden of Glendale Golf & Country Club is the 12 & under Champion (84-88).

Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course (85-78) won the Women’s Bantam Championship by 12 strokes over Addison Kartusch of St. Charles Country Club (90-85).

Payton Oakden, a Golf Manitoba Public Player, won the 13 & 14 age division Championship (97-99).

The 12 & under division Champion is Jewel Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course (108-103).

Playing in her first Women’s City & District Championship since taking home the title as last year’s top junior women’s player, Crystal Zamzow of the Swan River Golf & Country Club is making an early impression on Manitoba’s veterans.

The 15 year old shot a six over par 78 Saturday at the Transcona Golf Club to sit one stroke better than Bobbi Uhl of the Shilo Country Club and Niakwa Country Club’s Marissa Naylor.

Zamzow’s round consisted of seven bogeys, 10 pars and one birdie.

Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend Country Club and Southwood Golf and Country Club’s Rhonda Orr both shot an 82 and sit four strokes back.

Brayden Boge of the Pine Ridge Golf Club has a one stroke lead over Golf Manitoba Public Player Jackson Delaurier and is two strokes better than Golf Manitoba Public Player Terence Rafferty and Cashe McNabb of Pine Ridge Golf Club in the Bantam Men’s Championship.

Boge made three birdies on the back nine to shoot a three over par 74.

Hunter Oakden of the Glendale Golf and Country Club has a six stroke lead over Ty Brewster of the Quarry Oaks Golf Course in the 12 and under Men’s Division after shooting an 84.

Jeri Lafleche of the Clear Lake Golf Course leads the Bantam Women’s Championship at 85. That’s good for a three stroke advantage over St. Charles Country Club’s Addison Kartuch.

Golf Manitoba Director of Communications Brian Munz takes us “Inside the Ropes” as 108 golfers looked to advance to the 2021 championship.

58 golfers have advanced to Niakwa Country Club following today’s Qualifier where a field of 108 were vying to compete in the 2021 championship.

The low qualifier was Delwyn Doerksen, a Golf Manitoba Public Player, who shot a five under par 66 at Transcona Golf Club.

Tyler Hall of Pine Ridge Golf Club finished second on the leaderboard at two under par 69 while Justin Price of Glendale Golf & Country Club and Niakwa’s Daniel Munroe were the only other two players below par at one under 70.

The number golfers needed to best was eight over par 79 to make the cut.

The Province of Manitoba announced a new public health order which will be in effect as of Saturday, June 26^th at 12:01 a.m.

Guidelines specific to the golf industry include:

• Golf remains allowed with a maximum of five participants per group.

• It is not required that golf carts use appropriate barrier such as a plastic shield between the driver and passenger so that two people from separate households can share a golf cart.

• Individual golf lessons and group lessons for up to 25 students can now take place as long as participants are well spaced from each other.

• Public outdoor gathering sizes to increase to 25 persons.

• Outdoor organized recreation activities may reopen for groups up to 25 people. The golf course is responsible to take steps to ensure that golf groups are not more than 5 persons and that the groups are well spaced from each other and that separate groups are not gathering together on the course as the outdoor gathering limit of 25 would apply.

• Summer day camps may reopen to a maximum of 20 participants in groups.

• Retail businesses to open with increased capacity at 25 per cent to a limit of 250 persons, with no restrictions on the number of household members permitted to shop together.
• Restaurants and bars to reopen at 25 per cent capacity for indoors and 50 per cent for outdoor dining. For indoor dining, patrons seated together must be from the same household unless all patrons at the table are fully immunized. Patrons who are fully immunized and from different households may dine together. For outdoor dining, tables are limited to a maximum of 8 patrons and can be from different households regardless of immunization status.

• Outdoor weddings and funerals may take place with up to 25 participants, in addition to photographer and officiants. Indoor weddings and funerals remain limited to 10 persons.

Please note that this public health order is in effect until Monday, August 2^nd, 2021 at 12:01 am.
