Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge

RECAP | Junior Skills Challenge

It was a fun day for 53 competitors, family members, volunteers and staff as Southwood Golf & Country Club hosted the 2023 Junior Skills Challenge.

Participants were divided until three groups where they all competed throughout the afternoon at driving, chipping and putting stations.

Abgral wins PGA of Manitoba Championship

Colwyn Abgral (Golf Tec) fired rounds of 66, 69 for a nine under par total of 135 to claim the top spot and earn his first PGA victory at the 2023 Callaway PGA of Manitoba Championship.  Abgral made 13 birdies over the two days at the Niakwa Country Club giving him a 5 stroke margin over his nearest competitors.

Dean North (Carman Golf & Curling Club) and Terry Reilly (Niakwa Country Club) finished in a tie for second place at 4 under par. 

The 41 player field was the largest the event has seen in recent years and a strong testament to the dedication of our Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario members.

Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur Championship

FINAL RESULTS | Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Marissa Naylor (Niakwa Country Club) was Manitoba’s top player at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Creemore, Ontario.

Naylor shot an 85 during her third round to finish in a tie for 22nd place on the leaderboard at 244.

Canadian Junior Girls Championship Team Manitoba

Korman, Kartusch and Lafleche conclude play at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship

Cala Korman (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) finished play at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in New Brunswick as our province’s top performer.

Korman (pictured) carded her second consecutive five over par 76 during her final round to finish at 307.

Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) shot a 77 to wrap up play at 310 while Jeri Lafleche (Clear Lake Golf Course) ended with a 79 and 313 total.

Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur Championship Team Manitoba

RESULTS | Round 2 at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) had Manitoba’s low score of the day during the second round of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Creemore, Ontario.

Hayden birdied two of her final four holes en route to an 81 and a two day total 160.

RESULTS | Round 3 at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship

Cala Korman (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) is Manitoba’s top representative on the leaderboard heading into the final round of the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in New Brunswick.

Korman carded a five over par 76 during her third round, and with a 231 total, is tied for 35th place overall.

Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) (pictured) shot an 84 to drop to 42nd while Jeri Lafleche (Clear Lake Golf Course) is 44th after a 77.

RESULTS | Round 2 at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship

Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) shot a one over par 72 in her second round of the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in New Brunswick.

With a 149 two day total, Kartusch is tied for 13th on the leaderboard.

Two other Manitobans made the cut. Cala Korman (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) is at 155 after carding an 80 while Jeri Lafleche (Clear Lake Golf Course) is at 157 after a 77.

RESULTS | Round 1 of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Marissa Naylor of Niakwa Country Club is eight strokes off the lead after the opening round of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Creemore, Ontario.

Naylor’s five over par 77 has her tied for fifth place on the leaderboard.

Judith Kyrinis of Ontario was the only player to go under par with a three under 69.
