The team of Kerry Barkman and Thomas Friesen (Shilo Country Club) had a tremendous showing Saturday at the 2026 BDO National Golf League Championship at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Heathlands course) in Caledon, Ontario.
Using the best ball net modified stableford scoring system, Barkman, who played to a 16 handicap index, and Friesen, who played to a two handicap index, combined for 35 points, just three points shy of first place.
The teams of Daniel Beaupre and Benoit Mowbray (Glen Lea Golf Course) along with Daniel Chubey and Chad Willis (Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) each recorded 32 points.
Trevor Luedee and Jamie Pilkington of Manotick, Ontario, won the event in a playoff.

Play Your Way to the 2027 RBC Canadian Open
As we look ahead to the 2027 Championship, over 1,300 Golf Manitoba members have already registered to compete for an opportunity to represent the region at next year’s BDO National Golf League Final that will again be played at the host site of the 2027 RBC Canadian Open.
To participate, simply be a Golf Manitoba/Golf Canada member (easy to join if not already a member!) and pay a $20 entry fee for the season. Golfers will continue to play normal rounds at any Golf Manitoba/Canada member club. One round can be posted during the each of the following time periods:
- June 1-15, June 16-31
- July 1-15, July 16-31
- August 1-15, Aug. 16-31
You can play up to six rounds of 9 holes of which your best four scores will count. This is your pathway to the Provincial Championship which will be held on Sunday, September 20th at Falcon Lake Golf Course.

About the NGL
Launched by Golf Canada ahead of the 2023 season as a nationwide, season-long competition to enhance weekly recreational league experiences for men, women and junior golfers. The NGL has seen substantial growth since the inaugural season, with 271 leagues now set to compete this coming season, up from 130 leagues last season; and over 30,000 participants having competed since launching in 2023. The additional of several indoor member facilities across the country and simulator qualifiers has brought forward a number of new players into the league.
Those who participate in the NGL season play a lively role in growing the sport in their community as well, with 100 per cent of the league’s proceeds benefiting First Tee – Canada in their respective provinces around the country.
