Golf Manitoba Introduces the Impact Award: Celebrating the Facilities Growing Our Sport

WINNIPEG — Golf Manitoba is thrilled to announce the launch of a new annual tradition for the region: The Golf Manitoba Impact Award.

This new honour recognizes member facilities that are driving innovation, breaking down barriers, and creating welcoming, inclusive environments for golfers across Manitoba and Northwest Ontario.

Whether it’s a bustling 18-hole private club, an active municipal course, a passionate rural 9-hole facility, or an innovative indoor simulator centre, local golf facilities serve as the vital, year-round home for our golf community. The Golf Manitoba Impact Award was established to highlight the people, programs, and facilities making a difference in the sport at every level.

Honouring Impact in Every Community

A core principle of the Golf Manitoba Impact Award is equitable recognition. We recognize that excellence looks different across the region, and an impactful program at a small, volunteer-run municipal golf course is just as valuable to the growth of the sport as a program at a large metropolitan facility.

To ensure every member club has a fair opportunity to be recognized, entries are evaluated relative to a facility’s size, business model, and available resources. Judges focus on Resource-to-Impact—celebrating what a facility has achieved for its local community.

Facilities are recognized across four key areas of impact:

  1. Junior & Grassroots Growth: Inspiring the next generation through youth programming (such as First Tee, Youth on Course, or Golf in Schools), beginner clinics, dedicated women’s golf initiatives (such as She Plays Golf), and programs that make golf more accessible and affordable for kids.
  2. Competitive Culture & Athlete Progression: Fostering fun, welcoming club leagues, supporting competitive player pathways led by PGA of Canada Professionals, and encouraging handicap tracking via the Golf Canada App.
  3. Community Connection & Inclusivity: Building safe, diverse, and accessible environments, establishing partnerships with local schools and civic groups, creating accessible/adaptive golf opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and fostering a spirit of community volunteerism.
  4. Championship & Event Excellence: Delivering outstanding tournament experiences for players, officials, and spectators while hosting local, provincial, or national championships.

Spotlighting Local Success Stories

Throughout September and October, Golf Manitoba will feature submitting courses and finalists in a provincial “Facility Spotlight” series across our news channels and social media platforms. This initiative aims to share inspiring stories, celebrate dedicated staff and volunteers, and highlight best practices that help elevate golf across our entire region.

Recognition & The Support Donation

Finalists and the overall award recipient will be officially announced in early October. The winning facility will be celebrated at the annual Golf Manitoba Awards banquet.

To ensure the award continues to drive real results, the winning course will receive a commemorative award along with a $2,000 donation. These funds are earmarked specifically to help subsidize, expand, or support junior development or community golf programs at their facility for the upcoming season.
