Strong winds and below average temperatures tested the field at Winkler Centennial Golf Course on Saturday for the opening round of the All Abilities, U15 and Women’s City & District Championships.
Alberta’s Dave Marchand carded a 5-over par 74 to lead both the Gross and Net Divisions of the All Abilities Championship. Kristian Hammerback (Southwood Golf & Country Club) is the top Manitoban sitting in second place on the leaderboard, two strokes back in the gross division and four points back in the Net Stableford Division.

Grant Secord (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) has a two stroke lead over Drew Steeves (St. Charles) in the U15 Boys Championship presented by the Alex & Peggy Colonello Foundation following a 6-over par 77. Secord’s lead also has him atop of the 13 & 14 Boys Division.
Five players are within three strokes of leader Malcolm Sisson (Scotswood Links) in the 12 & under Boys Division.
Angelina Sitarz (Team Manitoba / Elmhurst Golf & Country Club) has a 10 stroke cushion on the field after carding a 7-over par 78. Maisy Shewchuk (Quarry Oaks Golf Course) and Kate McMillan (Team Manitoba / Pine Ridge Golf Club) sit T2 on the leaderboard. Sitarz also leads the 13 & 14 Girls Division.

Sunday’s final round sets the stage for an interesting finish in the Women’s City & District Championship as Charmaine Hayden (Breezy Bend Country Club) has just a single stroke advantage on Hannah Diamond (St. Charles) and Camryn Thomas (Team Manitoba / St. Charles). Hayden opened with a 9-over par 80.
