NEWS | St. Charles Country Club to host 2028 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Golf Canada is pleased to announce the clubs that will host the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, presented by BDO in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

The 2027 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship will take place at Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Alta., from July 26-30, followed by St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg, Man. from July 24-28, 2028, and Brantford Golf & Country Club in Brantford, Ont., July 23-27, 2029.

All three venues have hosted numerous championships over the years and will provide a great test along with an exceptional experience for those competing.”

Members enjoy two acclaimed 18-hole courses, namely “Hawk” and “Raven”, designed by renowned architect Bill Newis, nestled in the challenging yet scenic terrain of the Alberta Foothills. Priddis Greens is a three-time host of the CPKC Women’s Open. Australia’s Karrie Webb won in 1999, Norway’s Suzann Pettersen won the 2009 tournament and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand won the most recent championship held at the course in 2016. The province of Alberta last hosted the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in 2021 at the Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club in Edmonton.

Founded in 1904 by a group of visionary Winnipeg businessmen, St. Charles Country Club has grown into one of Canada’s most storied and respected private golf clubs. Set along the banks of the historic Assiniboine River, the Club is distinguished by its 27 championship holes, each nine designed by a legendary architect: Donald Ross, Alister MacKenzie, and Norman Woods. Over the decades, St. Charles has proudly hosted provincial, national, and international championships and welcomed golf’s greatest names to its fairways. Today, the Club remains dedicated to preserving its rich heritage while continuing to evolve as a premier destination for golf, recreation, and connection in the heart of Manitoba.

St. Charles is one of only eight clubs to host all four of Golf Canada’s premier events: RBC Canadian Open (1952), CPKC Women’s Open (1992, 2010) and both the Canadian Men’s (1936, 1957) and Women’s (1937, 1950, 1981) Amateur Championships. The Club has also hosted the Canadian Men’s and Women’s Senior Championships as well as the Canadian Junior Boys and Junior Girls Championships.

Founded in 1879, Brantford Golf & Country Club is one of North America’s oldest and most distinguished private clubs. Set along the scenic Grand River in Brantford, Ontario, the Club features a classic, championship-calibre course originally shaped by Nicol Thompson and Robbie Robinson and refined through an historically influenced renovation by Rod Whitman and Keith Cutten. Brantford has proudly hosted numerous provincial and national championships, including the Canadian Amateur and Ontario Women’s Amateur, and continues to blend tradition with innovation through its acclaimed golf course, vibrant clubhouse, and welcoming membership community.

Brantford will be hosting its sixth national amateur championship after previously hosting the Canadian Junior Boys Championship (1965), Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship (1997) and the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship twice (1966, 2004). Prior to the 2029 Canadian Women’s Amateur, Brantford will host the 2026 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by BDO.

The Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship debuted in 1901 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Que., the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship stands as one of the oldest amateur golf events in the world. Current LPGA Tour stars Ariya Jutanugarn (2012), Brooke Henderson (2013), Hye-Jin Choi (2016), Jennifer Kupcho (2017) and Yealimi Noh (2018) have all lifted the Dutchess of Connaught Gold Cup – though none have matched Marlene Stewart Streit’s record of 11 victories that helped her become the first-ever Canadian inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Team Canada – NextGen member, Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ont. added her name to the prestigious list of champions this July at The Riverside Country Club in Rothesay, N.B.

As previously announced the 112th playing of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship will take place at The Toronto Golf Club in Mississauga, Ont., from July 20-24, 2026.

The full 2026 Golf Canada championship schedule will be announced in the new year.

Team Manitoba Finishes 5th at Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Team Manitoba finished 5th in the Inter-Provincial Team Championship in the 111th playing of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, presented by BDO.

Team Manitoba finished with a two-day score of 320, just two shots shy of Team Alberta and Team Quebec who both finished in a tie for third place. Team Manitoba was represented by Addison Kartusch of the St. Charles Country Club, Cala Korman of Killarney Lakeside Golf Club, and Clara Peake of the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club.

Team British Columbia (B.C.) reclaimed the Inter-Provincial Team Championship for the first time since 2022 on Wednesday at The Riverside Country Club in Rothesay, N.B. The team was represented by Angela Arora of Surrey, B.C., Yeeun (Jenny) Kwon of Vancouver, B.C. and Amy Seung Hyun Lee of Langley, B.C. Read the full story here.

In the stroke play portion of the event, Cala Korman made the 36-hole cut on scores of 79 and 77 for a two day total of 156 putting her in a tie for 57th place.

Manitoba Third after Opening Round of Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Cala Korman of Killarney Lakeside Golf Course is the low Manitoban after round one of the 111th Canadian Women's Amateur Championship

Team Manitoba sits in third place after the opening round of the Inter-Provincial Team Championship being played at 111th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Rothesay, New Brunswick. Cala Korman of the Killarney Lakeside Golf Course was the low Manitoban in the team competition shooting a 5-over par score of 77. Clara Peake of the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club contributed with an 8-over par round of 80. Addison Kartusch of the St. Charles Country Club rounded out the team scoring with an 84.

Team Manitoba sits at +13 and eights shots back of 2nd place Team Ontario and ten shots back of 1st place Team British Columbia. The team event will conclude following tomorrow’s second round.

In the stroke play portion of the championship, Macy Pate of Winston Salem, MC, United States, opened with a 4-under par score of 68. Clara Ding from Whiterock, B.C., is in a tie for 2nd place. Niakwa Country Club’s Jeri Lafleche and Jewel Lafleche were also in the field shooting scores of 85 and 95 respectively.

Kartusch concludes Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) capped off the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Victoria, British Columbia with her best round of the week. 

Carding a 1-over par 73, Kartusch moved up five spots on the leaderboard to finish T48 at 12-over par 300.

Fun fact: Kartusch birdied the par four, sixth hole in all four rounds.

Yurang Li of California finished at 8-under par to win the national championship.

Kartusch cards 2-over par 74 in Round 3 at Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) shot her second consecutive 2-over par 74 Thursday at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Victoria, British Columbia. 

Sitting T53 on the leaderboard at 11-over par 227, her third round included four birdies, 10 pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys.

Fun fact: Kartusch has birdied the par four, sixth hole in all three rounds entering Friday’s finale.

Peake top Manitoban to open Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Clara Peake (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club had Manitoba’s low round to open the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Victoria, British Columbia.

She made back to back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes along with 10 pars en route to a 5-over par 77.

Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) shot a 6-over par 78, Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club) a 79 and Crystal Zamzow (Team Manitoba / Swan River Golf & Country Club) a 93.

Team Manitoba (Kartusch, Lafleche & Zamzow) is fourth in the Inter-Provincial Team Championship at 13-over par. Alberta is first at even par.

Australia’s Momo Suglyama sits in first place shooting a 6-under par 66.

Four Manitobans set to compete at 110th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship 

The 110th playing of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, presented by BDO, tees off this morning at Royal Colwood Golf Club in Victoria, British Columbia. 

The championship, which was first held in 1901, is one of the longest tenured amateur events in the world. The inaugural tournament at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Que., featured only three players. Fast forward over a century later, 156 players will look to engrave their name onto the Dutchess of Connaught Gold Cup in 2024.

Representing Manitoba in the 36 hole Inter-Provincial Team Championship are Addison Kartusch (Team Manitoba / St. Charles Country Club), Jeri Lafleche (Niakwa Country Club) and Crystal Zamzow (Team Manitoba / Swan River Golf & Country Club). Clara Peake (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club) is also in the field.

The championship will feature a competitive field of top female amateur golfers, national team members, provincial champions and elite international amateurs. The 72-hole stroke play competition runs through until Friday. The field will be cut to the low 70 players (including ties) after the second round. 

The tournament will welcome 118 Canadians along with 38 international players, including 22 from the United States, six from Australia, two from Chinese Taipei along with representation from Barbados, Colombia, Hong Kong, China and Mexico. 

The Inter-Provincial Team Championship will be played in conjunction through the first 36 holes of the competition with eight three-player teams vying for the title. Last year Team Ontario consisting of Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ont.), Joline Truong (Mississauga, Ont.) and Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ont.) were crowned champions. 

The 156 player field features seven of Team Canada athletes led by defending champion Lauren Kim (Surrey, B.C.) – who shot a final round 2-under 71 to claim the title last year along with teammates, Angela Arora (Surrey, B.C.), Katie Cranston (Oakville, Ont.), Nicole Gal (Oakville, Ont.), Michelle Liu (Vancouver, B.C), Alissa Xu (Richmond Hill, Ont) and Lauren Zaretsky (Thornhill, Ont.). 

Team Canada NextGen will also be represented with nine members of the team set to compete including, Vanessa Borovilos (Etobicoke, Ont), Anna Huang (Vancouver, B.C), Shauna Liu (Maple, Ont.), Luna Lu (Burnaby, B.C), Lindsay McGrath (Oakville, Ont.), Eileen Park (Red Deer, Alta.), Swetha Sathish (Oakville Ont.), Michelle Xing (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Vanessa Zhang (Vancouver, B.C.).   

Clara Ding of White Rock, B.C. is the youngest player in the field at the age of 13 and there are two members of Royal Colwood Golf Club teeing it up this week, Cynthia Adamek and Jiyue Wu.  

Royal Colwood Golf Club is a world-class golf course that offers a challenging and scenic layout, set amidst a beautiful forest of towering trees and manicured fairways. Designed by Arthur Vernon Macan in 1913, the course has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments. The par 72 course features strategically placed bunkers and winding fairways that demand strategic accuracy and skill. The course’s natural scenic landscape is enhanced by its serene surroundings, with sparkling water features and an abundance of wildlife.

Last year Team Canada member, Lauren Kim won the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax, N.S. Team Canada athletes have won the past three Canadian Women’s Amateur Championships. Prior to Kim’s victory last year, Monet Chun of Richmond Hill, Ont. won the 2022 championship at Westmount Golf and Country Club in Kitchener, Ont. and Lauren Zaretsky won in 2021 at Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club in Spruce Grove, Alta.  

The 2024 Canadian Women’s Amateur champion will receive an exemption into the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship taking place August 5-11 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. In addition, the winner will receive an exemption into the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open, taking place August 18-24 at Mississaugua Golf Club in Mississauga, Ont.

3rd place finish for Team Manitoba at Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship

Jeri Lafleche (Clear Lake Golf Course), Cala Korman (Team Manitoba / Golf Manitoba Public Players Club) and Clara Peake (Minnedosa Golf & Country Club) combined for a third place finish during the Inter-Provincial Team Championship at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.

Korman shot a one over par 73 during her second round while Peake carded an 80 for our province to finish with a +18 total over 36 holes.

Only Ontario (+5) and British Columbia (+17) had a better team finish than Manitoba.

Individually, Korman 79-73-152 was the only Manitoban to make the cut advancing to Thursday’s third round.

Jeri Lafleche (Clear Lake Golf Course) carded Manitoba’s best round to open the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship shooting a two over par 74.

Brooke Rivers of Ontario is atop of the leaderboard at the Ashburn Golf Club following a seven under par 65.

Korman concludes Canadian Women’s Amateur

Golf Manitoba Public Players Club member Cala Korman shot an 84 on Friday in her final round of the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship presented by BDO Wednesday in Kitchener, Ontario.

Her tournament total 326 placed her 70th on the leaderboard.

Korman is a member of Team Manitoba’s Development Program.
